Topic: Transferring DSi Ware Downloads

I want to buy a new DSi because I basically ruined my touch screen with Rhythm Heaven and its flicking and tapping with the stylus motions. Anyways, I have bought 4 DSi Ware games so far and copied them to my SD card. If I buy a new DSi will I be able to simply transfer the games from my SD card to my new DSi or can I simply download them again through the shop after giving them my Club Nintendo information?

You really damaged the touchscreen by playing that game? I don't own it yet (although I did enjoy playing through the demo thanks to the Nintendo Channel) and my DSi is of course still brand new, but with my old Lite I played plenty of touchscreen games for 2 years with considerably involved and sometimes frantic touchscreen controls for many of the games, and the screen always held up as if it were brand new. That's strikes me as surprising that one could damage it by just playing Rhythm Heaven a little too enthusiastically -- did you bear down much more forcefully with the stylus than necessary?

Sorry to not answer your question and just bug you for details about how it happened, but I'm very curious as to just how much it would take to do damage to the screen.

It's not ruined per say, its just scratched thats all because I was stupid not to purchase screen protectors or purchase soft tipped styluses. I do tend to put alot of force down sometimes on occassion.

Oh okay. I never used a screen protector before, and on my Lite you could only see very light surface scratches if you had it turned off and reflected a light off it, but they were so superficial as to be completely invisible with the system turned on. I guess I really just don't tend to press down with much force. That's actually something I worried about when pondering the silver DS Lite case with the large stylus from Club Nintendo as a reward (I doubt I'll choose that now since the DSi wouldn't fit) -- I was worried that the large stylus would make me grip and use it more like a normal pen, whereas the normal stylus is so small that I just lightly hold onto it between two fingers.

My experience with DS usage matches that of warioswoods, in that I had a DS Lite for two years and never got a scratch on it. I have played Rhythm Heaven on my DSi, though, and haven't damaged it at all yet. Basically, I'd say you need to let up on your screens, Syrek! I usually don't recommend screen protectors because they dull the screen's sensitivity, but if you're pressing that excessively hard already, it probably won't be a problem for you.

Now, to answer the question you posed in the first place...You definitely CAN'T just transfer from SD to the new system because it's linked to the system of purchase. I don't have an answer about the Club Nintendo idea, though it is something I've been curious about lately. You should probably ask Nintendo about it and see what they say. Let us know, too, so we don't have to wonder how screwed we all are if our DSi's or Wii's suddenly go belly-up!

I mean the scratches that I'm taking about on my DSi are minor to say the least and me being a perfectionist when it comes to my systems and or games. All of them come from Rhythm Heaven due to my excess force on the stylus which I figured would happened but was too lazy to do anything about it. I guess next time I get a new DSi I will have to be a bit more careful. And I do believe there are styluses, maybe not yet for the DSi, but there were for the DS Lite, styluses that were sractch free or less scratchy I guess is the word I'm going to use. I will call Nintendo today to ask them those questions. I mean I could always send the DSi into Nintendo for repair but thats not an option due to money constraints, even the with discount I get with my warrenty. So I will inform you all as soon as possible.

Just to be certain, you said you would buy a new dsi to replace this one, but you don't have enough money to fix the screen on the one you have?

I know its complete off-topic, but following the thread, I some how managed to rip a scratch in my DS Lite screen playing Pokémon Ranger 2 with all that stylus swirling! But its not matter now 'cos I traded it in and got me a nice new DSi to replace it.

Back to the OT... I dunno about swapping apps but I would be interested to know too. Also does anyone know if it is possible to download US DSi-ware apps on a UK DSi? Or else copy them across somehow via Internet/SD Card from a US to UK system? Grrr, why did they have to have all these region specific releases? Tis no fair!!!

As far as I understand it, you cannot transfer your games from one DSi to another, even if you use the same account details. You may be able to link your account on your new DSi and download the games again, but if I were you I'd get in touch with Nintendo before buying another one just in case you won't be able to use them.

With regards to transferring DSi games from one region console to another, it cannot be done - they just won't run on another machine, regardless of which region it's from. I agree, it's a real shame.

Incidentally, next time try taking a leaf out of Mr Miyamoto's book and using cotton wool buds/Q-tips

Are you forgetting Rhythm Heaven?

@Wiiloveit: dude, those spinners are deadly, and some of 'em you have to work pretty hard to get them going. Rhythm Heaven can get intense, but not quite that intense. :3

If you have to get a new dsi because you ruined the screens, then you can just buy them with your new 1000 free points. You get 1000 free points with your dsi so just buy and download them again. Or you can get even better and newer games.

How much did it cost to buy each of the games? If they were only like 200 each then DONT BOTHER! If your touchscreen doesn't work, like at all, get a new one. If not go buy a screen protector and save yourself I dunno... a good 150$!

Have you thought of getting a good quality screen protector now? The one that's 'Officially Licensed' by Hori is pretty good. It might do pretty well at covering those minor scratches you have and help save your DSi. It would be a shame to already need to buy a new one.

You should be able to do the wifi data transfer.
Put a wifi game in the old DSi, and go in to the wifi options, chose details transfer, and all should be good.

Otherwise, i dont think you can move accounts.
