My I-Pod Touch gets all the abuse, dropped on hardwood about 20 times (I try to carry my stuff around and its the only thing that falls, which I hate dropping it, but Its so hard to save it before it hits the ground) and its always came back perfect except for the cluster$#ck of fingerprints.
1 foot isn't that long of a drop and it shouldn't break even if it hit the concrete. inless like cheapogamer4life said "if it was drop at the "right" angle on a concrete floor" then yeah she's done. my dsi hit the concrete floor several times. are you sure it wasn't atleast 2-3 feet?
i honestly wonder, tho accidents happen, but dont give it room to happen. i never walk around with my DSi while changing a bulb or any other activity that doesn't require the use from my DSi...like showering. it stays on a desk or table, far from harm until i need to game. Like it was suggested before, you'd buy a protective casing for it. Mine was never dropped, i taught my 4 yr old niece how to handle it, she never drops it, and she plays her Dora games every day. Still the DSi looks very sturdy imo. But not that much to handle it carelessly.
@Ninji Yea I was the same way with my Dsi for the longest time. The trouble for me started when I began to use my Dsi for a Mp4 player. Just having it out and about seems like some strange(dsi) hazard had it out for me.
I'd say that the DSi is a very strong system. My brother has dropped it over 5 times. His has been scraped accross cement, nearly fell down the stairs, and fell from over 5 feet for sure. It works better then ever.

I don't know about the DSi, but the DS lite's buttons are way too fragile. Shoulder buttons stop responding all the time, and I eventually had to get my R button and d-pad repaired.
$30 console controllers > handheld buttons that are intentionally made weak by greedy companies that make you pay $80 to repair them.

Ah, so that's how I can get my DSi to work better! BRB going to drop it out the window.
I attached a C4 charge to mine and it exploded...I couldn't be more livid that it broke...I mean, it's not MY fault that I blew it up, it was only an accident. Nintendo should have made a more durable system.
You must of dropped it hard, mine was dropped quite a bit and it lasted until I traded it, but my left button stopped working unless I shook it. Call Nintendo, they will fix it but I think the price depends on where you live in the world. (60$ U.S.)
