Topic: Tetris Party Deluxe

I just picked this game up, and it's pretty awesome. The play control feels more like Tetris DS (even faster I think), and they've added some modes that weren't there in Tetris Party like Master Mode and Sprint. I've looked at videos of Tetris Party Deluxe for the Wii and I don't think the play control is as fast as this version, so if you already have Tetris Party for the Wii, I'd recommend getting the DS version rather than the Wii version.

On the sad side, they've made the tetriminos smaller than in TDS for no good reason, so if you're playing on a Lite they're going to look really small. Someone disconnected on me on the wi-fi, and I didn't earn any points for the match even though it said I won, so DCers are going to be an issue like in Tetris Party. Also, I noticed someone posted a Sprint time of 0:00:03 to the leaderboard, so the leaderboards are going to be nonsense if all the kids with flash cards can do junk like that. On the plus side, if the cheaters do come up with an I-Cheat like they had in TDS, at least we can just disconnect on them now.

Wow iphys, I have been seeing you everywhere! Gamefaqs, Harddrop, here...Anyway, I got it and I am loving it. The new modes compliment TDS really quite well, I think. I will definitely be playing the two for quite a while, or at least until MMZ Collection and DQIX come out, haha.

And can you go a little faster?!

Poor marketing by Majesco. I guess they just figure Tetris is so good it should sell itself even with no hype for the game.

BTW, there is supposed to be a Tetris Party Live coming to DSiWare, so if anyone doesn't want to fork over the $$ for a retail release they might want to wait for that.

Glad to hear its pretty decent. Since I have Tetris Party for WiiWare, I will most likely get this DS version so I can have it on the go.

I don't own Tetris Party on WiiWare so I am considering picking up the Wii version of this game. I am also surprised to hear that it is out already. There was no marketing for this game. I sold my copy of Tetris DS a while back so I have a definite urge to play some Tetris. I hope that Nintendo Life will be reviewing these games very soon.

Okay, the lineclear delay is definitely faster than TDS. I went back to playing some TDS after this, and the pieces would seem to hang in the air forever before the lineclear animation finished, and I also came up short of hitting the walls a few times when I was trying to time dropping pieces there, so this game might have faster autoshift than TDS. I think TDS took 11 frames to charge the autoshift and then 5 frames to shift each column, whereas T Party was like 16 and 3, so maybe this game is closer to the best of both worlds: 11 and 3 or thereabouts. I think the faster lineclears will help a lot for comboing.

By far the coolest new feature of this game is that if you twist J/L/S/Z pieces into tight spaces, you can get rewards like for T-spins. The scoring seems to be the same as that for T-spins: 400x(1+number of lines cleared)xlevel (+ 50% back-to-back bonus if applicable) for a full-fledged T/S/Z/L/J Spin, vs (100 + regular lineclear score)xlevel for a Spin Mini. Strangely though in multiplayer, the J/L/S/Z Spins only send 1/2/3 (+1 for back-to-back) garbage lines for doing a single/double/triple, while T-spins still send 2/4/6 (+1 for back-to-back). They've taken away the 1 garbage line you would send for doing a Spin Mini in TDS, but performing a Spin Mini can activate the back-to-back bonus for a subsequent back-to-back to send an extra garbage line, so potentially these spins can help you to send more garbage.

BTW, I'm not sure if all of these new features are also in the Wii version, or if they've left the Wii version more like Tetris Party since the Wii games are compatible with each other online. From what I have seen in videos, the lineclear delay does look faster in TPD(Wii) than TP though.

One other minor difference I noticed between the Wii and DS versions of TPD is the backgrounds. On the Wii they are animated, but on the DS they are static images, so if you like to see fireworks going off in the background you might prefer the Wii version, but if you prefer to avoid visual distractions and focus on playing the game you'll probably prefer the DS version.

Hmmm, I already have DS and WiiWare versions, so.....

I would pick up another ware version though

BTW, I found out the Wii version does have the J/L/S/Z twists, and when you go online it gives you the option of playing under the old TP rules to play those players or play with the new rules to play other TPD players.

Tetris Party Live for DSi might be almost as good as TPD if you want to wait for that.

Okay, I got the Wii version of TPD as well, and it's every bit as awesome as the DS version. It also has more music tracks, and they have a richer sound than the DS version. You can also do more Bombliss and Shadow edits on the Wii version than the DS version. There's also Wii Wheel Stage Racer (no Wii Wheel required, where you hold down on the D-pad and move sideways by tilting the Wiimote), which is way easier on your thumb than trying to hold down and move sideways at the same time. I think the speed is pretty much the same as the DS version (which is way, way faster than the WiiWare Tetris Party), but the only drawback is that the Wiimote D-pad is so stiff compared with the DS that it's hard to quickly tap a piece over a couple columns and I find the CC D-pad too big and clumsy to be practical.

Since my dad just paid me $30 for a magazine subscription I (supposedly) paid for 2.5 years ago but never got, I may need to pick this up.

Exactly.

I just read on the Nintendo website that you can talk over the microphone while playing WiFi. That sounds great. If anyone has tried this, let me know how it works.

I haven't tried it. The only thing I've heard about it is it only works for 2p friend battles and nothing else.
