I'm pretty sure that when you saw the title, you thought: Wait what ? Well my dear it is a game. A promising one. Made by Cyber Connect 2, it is made to pay tribute to the 15th anniversary of Tail Concerto, a good game for the PS1, forgotten because of its presumably childish appearance, and probably because of really bad voice acting (at least we had the superior version in France with Japanese VA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1zWOG0Pboc). Now that you probably have seen the intro, you probably say: "lol furries !!", well... you are partially right. But the game when I played it last month felt like a hommage and blending of all of Miyazaki's pre-Mononoke work: mixing a bit of Sherlock Holmes, Nausicaa and Castle in the Sky. It was short but really sweet. But back on track. Solatorobo is it's spiritual successor, with it's similar universe. It seems longer, mission-based, and more anime-esque (for better or worse). Cutscenes made by MadHouse and will have a few DSi exclusive features. The story looks really more developped and also DAMON GANT IS IN IT !
It looks furry, oh srry what? Nope never heard of that game, but looked up the trailers and it looks a little bit like star fox assault (you know for the gamecube) It also remembers me games like super mario sunshine, but thats not the point, it looks good, really good in fact, im not pretty sure wich gameplay do it have, but, it is coming these years? It is coming to NA or only japan and you need to export it? If it is only japan, im gonna learn japaneese
Well, it's comming in October in Japan and I've seen footage during Japan Expo in Paris a demo, already translated in French, so maybe it'll come by the end of the year. For me, it just oozes charm (even if you put the furryness outside, even if it is one of the last of my motivations), and it is a shame that it doesn't even have one tidbit of news on the big sites (even here), probably because it's too niche. I also found out that the game has more attention here in France, probably because Tail Concerto did better.
"Et hop, déterrage de topic" as we would say in French. So yeah, hope is reborn for me ! I already decided to cover it on the two French gaming sites I work on. It really deserves to get a little advertising ! Any help Nintendolife (news-wise), maybe ?
As far as this game goes, it kinda is like Okami ... in the bad side of things : It is a game I immediatly "fell in love " with when I first played it, it got a really good critical success (in France, the average mark is 15/20, with the main complaint being "it isn't out in France yet") and totally bombed sales-wise in Japan. That's why I'm totally ready to defend this game and make sure it sells more copies than it should have by trying to spread the word to the world
Watched the trailer you posted up, and I am certainly digging the steampunk theme. The graphics also look AMAZING, even possibly better than Okamiden's.
However, what I don't like is how they used anime animals instead of regular people. Seriously... furries in games make me shudder. Furries in anything make me shudder. If it weren't for this, I may be a bit more hyped for the game. But the simple fact of using furries is quite a deal-breaker for me.
I strongly recommend to put the furry fears outside. Seriously, remember the mascot craze, the Disney movies and all that stuff. Even the Miyazaki produced Sherlock Holmes series this game pays tribute to ! They created the first game as an hommage to the 80's and 90's Miyazaki productions, and decided to keep the same universe, since they like it. Just view this game as a good game. For me, as far as I've played this game (5 hours, japanese version), I easily give it a solid 9/10, but the overall difficulty might knock it down to a 8.5/10. The game has a definite charm playing for it... well that's probably because Castle in the Sky is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it really shows... ^^
Oh and for the commercials, I watched a few of them and got a bit weirded out by some of them, but that's because they wanted to expand on the universe as far as they could. And also because they established a FRIGGIN' WORLD RECORD ! (biggest number of commercials in 8 hours)
Aww man! We Americans need to buy more obscure games, otherwise no one will bother with localization anymore. Com'on people!
I think we're fine as long as XSeed and Atlus are around (the former of which is becoming a large part of my recent gaming colection). Not that you aren't completely right though.
