You know, according to the article the grandma is leading the legal charge here, which sure explains a hell of a lot. I believe the dog's owner is probably correct in that the girl probably kicked the dog, which set off the dog.

well, i have a pit bull.
She is stronger than i, very loud, sightly agressive and quite scary when she is around food...
Yet she hasn't biten anyone beacuse of fake dog barking.
(she is actually very very cute)

This is entirely the dog owner's fault. I always feel bad about things like this, and just thinking about a dog attacking a kid makes me sick. People need to start training their dogs, and they need to stop breeding dogs that will attack people. Why would you want to own something that could maul you when it hears barking? So if your neighbors had a barking dog your dog would jump up and start mauling people? Why would you want that? Get a nice dog, like a yellow lab.
