This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

Now IGN can't ask Denise about it. Oh well.

well, considering DSiWare loads its own memory files, unlike WiiWare, which loads them from the Wii memory (i may be wrong at this) loading a game from a SD card may produce duplicate games, you know, one file on your DSi, another in your SD card, which is why they cant just "port the code" from the Wii, it would need a whole new update for the DSi, the shop and DSiWare.... But thats only what i belive.

SD, DS oh the coincidence...

Well, Denise is gone so no cheerful Nintendo Minutes where we have a lil' say....

Kinda sucks that DSi doesn't have an SD Card Menu set-up because I don't use the Wii's (because I have been away from it for a long while).

If Nintendo picks up the idea of the DSi SD Card Menu, they would have to design it in such a way that pirates/homebrewers won't touch it. The DSi has been turning away pirates for a good while since the 1.4 update and if the Big N isn't careful, they may have given the pirates victory.

We'll just have to wait and see. They are "working" on the DSi Speak Channel so why not this?

I'm hoping it will be on the next update. Maybe their trying to add more customization to the Homepage as well? I mean, you never know...

How hard is it to copy a game from the SD card to the DSi's memory when you want to play it?

I've been doing that for ages, as I download almost all the DSiWare software, and IT TAKES ME 10 SECONDS TO DO.

How lazy do you have to be to not be patient enough to do something that takes 10 seconds?

theblackdragon

@WaltzElf: it's a needless hassle, especially because they gave us the system update for Wii before the DSi hit our shores anyway -- how hard could it have been for them to do the same for the DSi at that point in time, with the knowledge that their reluctance to do so for the Wii'd had users annoyed for quite a while already?

Thanks for calling us all lazy for not being as okay with having to shuffle things around on our DSis as you are, though. It's definitely appreciated.

OK, 300000 odd people died of starvation today. There is an increasingly-dangerous war going on in Afghanistan, people are still losing their jobs and companies are still going bankrupt from the recession, there's a Jennifer Lopez sex tape out there somewhere, and Magic Carpet still hasn't been remade for newer generation consoles (in decreasing order of importance).

The amount of whinging on this here forum, along with the over-dramatic "I have to delete all my content!!!!111!!" over 10 seconds of effort is utterly insane, and somewhat offensive, that such a big deal is being made over literally nothing. Especially when you consider that, from the advent of consoles, you'd had to do that 10 second effort to swap game cartridges or CDs anyway.

Explain to me why waiting 10 seconds to play a game is a big hassle.

There's a thread on this every other day. If you can put all the energy into complaining about it, surely you can put less effort into developing a simple storage system of your DSiWare games. :-/

@WaltzElf: You're on a gaming website, posting in a gaming forum geared at DSiWare in specific, and the topic is 'SD card menu'. If you don't like the topic, skip it.

I think you missed the point... It's simply not a big issue, people are making mountains out of molehills and it's stemming from a sheer impatience (sorry, but there's no other way to describe it) to not put up with a 10 second process that you do when you swap game cartridges anyway.

The point of a forum is to discuss things. I wasn't under the impression that "discussion" meant "nod your head and agree or shut up."

If someone can give me a single good reason why the current system is a genuine problem, then great. I'll shut up. Until then I'll continue to point out how crazy this weekly topic is.

theblackdragon

@WaltzElf: You can go down every single topic on this entire set of forums and make the same 'children are starving in third-world countries, why complain about this?' complaint. What purpose does it serve except to make you look like a jerk? Especially when this is the only 'SD card menu' topic within at least the last 100 topics on this section of the forums. People may bring it up on occasion elsewhere, but you're exaggerating how many threads there are on the topic by far.

I think you missed the point -- however silly it may seem to you, to us, it's something we want, and you have no right to call everyone else 'lazy' for not being as okay with juggling things on their DSis, especially if you're going to just ignore the reasoning I gave in my original response to you. If that's all you had to contribute to this topic, the better choice would indeed have been to keep it to yourself and move on to the next one.

Waltz, i get your point, but the problem in question is not "MOVING MY DSIWARE AROUND IZ TO HARD ME DOES NOT WANTZ!!!!1!!", its simply, why they havent implemented the same system they used for the wii on the much newer dsi, Has japan gotten that kind of update yet?
the answer is no, though.
Nintendo may do it someday, but its still not done.
Maybe you find more confortable to move your games from your DSi to your SD and te other way around everytime you want, others may disagree, its ok, you need to accept it.

a genuine problem? No it isn't, but admittedly, when you are on a website about entertainment, whether it be for video games, music, or movies everything you mention is small potatoes. I mean, when the wii had this problem I wasn't sitting there thinking "huh...my wii not holding all my games is a much bigger problem than the state of the world" and I doubt anybody thinks that it is a HUGE problem. Just a HUGE problem in the world of gaming.

That actually pretty well sums up my feelings on complaining about video games in general. There are more important things to complain about. But this one, for being so inane, really irritates me. I think I do pretty well not to make comments down those lines for those topics about not having game x on WiiWare yet, or the cost of game y on DSiWare being too high.

In general there is way too much complaining by an otherwise friendly bunch of people. The scary thing is that it's even worse on other forums :-/

In conclusion - glass half full, people! Especially on really trivial things like this - otherwise you'll give yourselves a heart attack by 20.

well, as i said before, i belive the dsiware uses a different way to read the saved files than WiiWare, and a menu would open a gate to get mutiple saved files. Nintendo may be working on a way to solve that. Also, homebrewers seem to be more than interested in the DSi SD option~

btw, i belive tbd has been a mod for some time now

multiple save files (while nice) would never be allowed. It is the fact that I can't have multiple files, that I am buying the green and possibly red notebooks as well as the blue one.

One of those would be from me, except I'm not out of memory.
