Frustratingly, I have gotten a "save data corrupted" messages several times whiel trying to continue a save game on Shiren the Wanderer. What does this mean? Is there something wrong with the cart?

Please help.

Nope. You probably shut off your DS in frustration after you've died. Don't! You actually have to wait and exit the game from the titlescreen to stop playing. You always lose all your progress/levels/inventory when you die. If you shut off your DS just before you're about to die or whenever, the game thinks you try to cheat (that is: stop playing to try and keep all your levels/stuff).
It doesn't like that because this game is evil. When you boot up the game after such an action it says 'save data corrupted' and kicks you to the absolute start of the game anyway.
I know, dry your tears, it's unfair but that's just the way it is!

That's it! Thanks so much Robster!. I wasn't actually turning it off in frustration. I thought I was at the main menu when I was powering it off but obviously I wasn't.

It happens in pokemon, mostly because the cart got jerked loose during a fall{Make sure you take it out and put it back in before turning it on} or you had a interuption when it was being saved, such as you turned it off during saving it or like in my case I had a accident during transfer.

I heard of people playing the SNES game in emulators (because it was only available in English through a fan translation), and it was recommended not to use savestates because it would do bad things to the auto-save function.
So maybe the save file IS being corrupted when you turn the game off unexpectedly.

Am I glad, I don't illegally modify my DSi or pirate games.
