It's really really simple to use. Simple 16-step drum-computer-ey note entry (with a couple other nicely-implemented options) and equally simple 4-channel loop entry. Gonna work on it for a couple days--then I'll be taking videogame song remix ideas

Corbs

Can't wait to hear them...

Plain old gamer :)

I'm working on a remix of the Chocobo theme. I would call it 'Rytmik de Chocobo', but the character space for the song title entry is really short...

Can you close your DSi and still listen to your songs through the headphone jack?

Nope, it goes into sleep mode.

So far I've only been able to make a vuvuzela techno anthem

Does anyone know if you can make a note play for longer? Like if you play a key on a piano it sounds for longer?
Haha I know i'm not using technical terms cuz I forget

@SZM You mean legato probably (in musical terms)

I want this game so much.

@Peach Not quite legato. I think he means being able to hold a note for 2 or more beats.

@SZM It's not possible due to the nature of the samples being used. If you use lower notes, the samples play slower which extends their play time. I wish you could though. There are two piano-like sounds and one is a lot longer than the other so use that one.

Legato isn't possible either, it's really simply just a sample playback mechanism with pitch and timing adjustment.

Rytmik is a great tool, but you should probably have a lot of time on your hands to learn how to use it.

Not really, I just watched the basics tutorial, and then I figured the rest out. Well most of it.

no legato? forget it. i like long, drawn-out synth-keboard plying through mg whole song

Yeah, you can't hold notes but there are synth samples which last for a long time (about one measure/4 beats, and fade off longer than that), and can be repeated seamlessly to sound like a held note. They obviously thought out the sample selection pretty well.

EDIT: Like in this song, there are long synth notes. Good song too!

I think the term we're searching for is "sustain".

@Holy - it's workable...I'm actually doing the Chrono Trigger battle theme at the moment, and I've found decent substitutes for the Choir Ahs (Synth 6) and the organ (can't remember what it is), despite not having control over note duration. I'll post it when I'm done....don't expect any mountains to be moved, but it's kind of a cool track .

no sustain is like if i hit a key on a piano, how long until it fades away. legato is actually keeping one note going for as long as you want & it doesnt fade out all slow (unless you add sustain) legato is exactly what its called on korg ds 10+. by the way, im sticking with my kds10+ but am very interested in discussing with you guys about the differences, advantages & dis-advantages of both. unless of course some of you would feel like im droning on about another game that is.

@breegullblaster: Legato doesn't have to be the same note, it can be a fairly smooth transition between notes.

Sustaining is a good way to put what you guys are talking about, as all it means is holding the same note for more beats than 1, as in a half note or whole note, or even longer. I will probably eventually get this 'game' as I'm fairly sure there is probably a way to sustain notes similar to Korg DS-10, and the composing abilities look to be superior to the live oriented Korg program.

I've got the body of a taut, pre-teen Swedish boy.

@zez - not too shabby man...whole song kinda sounds like it's crawling though (it's cause of the swing-triplet feel you're using for the perc) -- a minor percussive re-tuning and that'd be a pretty dope little ditty.

As soon as I finish the CT Battle (happening momentarily) I'll make a Rytmik compositions thread.
