A new generation handheld is inevitable, and shouldn't be a surprise. If this is true, it most certainly won't be confirmed by Nintendo anytime soon, as it could of course slow current Lite and DSi sales.
If more about this comes about though, my support of the DSi (ie DSiWare purchases) would likely come to a halt, and I would be quite tempted to just sell it off. You can tell the support has been "meh" at best, considering it's been on the market for over six months already, and we're just now getting our first shovelware DSi exclusives.
Thoughts?

I think the "late 2010" thing is out of context honestly... The original article said it would "debut" in late 2010, (if it's true of course) I can see it being shown in late 2010, and released in 2011.

I still wanna know how nintendo plan on wining over the ENTIRE casual market all over again, or maybe it will be like every other time. Looks back to the NES and the money it made
And then nintendo spent it on doing stuff the core people like for over 10years.
But seriously, i want to see how they convince people to get something they already own.
I love the DS and DSi. If this rumor is true, I will be buy this DS+ from day one. Question is, how powerful will the DS+ be? My guess is it will be a little more powerful than the Gamecube. But if that happens, then the Wii 2 rumor might be true after all.

Maybe as powerful as a Wii, those things are pretty small already

I was going to push this one off as just a rumour but everything seems to point to it being true.
Looking at the specs of the chip (unless they make a revision) it sits somewhere between the Gamecube and the Wii. The DS was released 3 years after the Gamecube and specifications wise sits somewhere between the N64 and Gamecube.
Everyone is expecting Nintendo to bring something game changing for every new system now and co-incidentally Nvidia are currently trying to push their hardware accelerated 3D. I know 3D doesn't really sound appealing considering the Virtual Boy and the thought of using shutter glasses on a handheld but the timing is really good for this. Also, because we are talking about a handheld device where you rarely move your head out of the ideal position they could use an auto-stereoscopic screen.
A while ago Nvidia said that "from about 2010 on" they believe that Tegra will account for a significant amount of their revenue. Either they expect ZuneHD to take off or they have some other contracts that haven't been revealed yet.
Its a very low powered chip which fits really well with Nintendo's philosophy on handhelds. I would throw this out instantly as a rumour if it was a PSP style processor where "power" was significantly sacrificing power consumption/battery life.
Not only does Tegra use the same architecture as the DS which would make backwards compatibility really easy but it also ups the specs significantly. Potentially this could mean that DS games could have stuff like 16x AA applied to them or (given the research put into it, it this does happen expect shares of all the companies involved in 3D to explode) be "converted" to stereoscopic 3D on the fly. If that's the case then bugger the rest, sign me up!

Ok, I was ticked, b/c I just recently got a DSi. However, if this is true, I will purchase it post haste upon its release. They'd still better let us transfer downloadable titles from the DSi, or there will be much anger.
Honestly, as cool as 3d is, I don't think I would have much patience for carrying around 3-D glasses with a portable. Nintendo's been good over the years of keeping their portables actually easy to carry around, so I hope they don't mess with that formula too much.
Yeah, I don't think many people would be comfortable with shutter glasses for a portable console. Thankfully the tech for glasses-less 3D has been around for about as long and actually works better with portable devices. Its not that crazy really, this tech is already on the market and has been to some degree for the last 5-10 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharp_Actius_RD3D_Notebook http://www.au.kddi.com/seihin/ichiran/kishu/h001/ http://www.xyz3d.tv/
The only problem is that unless they do some really crazy stuff it would "break" when you turn it on its side..... if of course the rumours are true and/or they go down the 3D road.
