...that aren't Mario & Luigi or Chrono Trigger The former because everyone and their dog knows they're great games, the latter because I F'ing hate it.
Just made this topic out of boredom, and because despite the DS having tons of RPGs, very few of them seem to interest me. I was hoping some people might bring up some game(s) I never heard of that might interest me, or perhaps give a different spin on a game that I thought I wouldn't like. Which reminds me...
Please explain why you would recommend them Otherwise you are simply wasting my time. I will be enforcing this requirement.
Maybe you should try the innovative The World Ends With You. It an RPG with no clichés...
Also, Etrian Odyssey: it's long and simple, but extremely difficult because the enemies have the same level as you, but you have equipment to protect you.
The World Ends With You: highly regarded DS rpg, everyone and their mother has played and loves it (except me).
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survior: really gripping and intriguing story, but if you're a veteran of strategy rpgs, this game's system may bore you a bit
Luminous Arc I and II: fun, quirky characters and story, nothing really serious, but I found the gameplay more engaging
Lost Magic: a rare game that didn't get a lot of critical love, but I found that the strategy elements combined with the rune drawing on the touch screen with monster collecting on top, made for a very fun unique experience. The multiplayer is reaaaaaaaaaally addictive. There are over 100 different spells to cast and a few dozen monsters to choose an army so every player will play with their own unique style. My cousin for example would cast a lot of dragon spells and physical attack spells to finish my character, while I'd use teleports, cast walls, and use my monsters to kill his character.
DRAGON QUEST FTW!!! I only played one game from the main series, DQ8, but I'm pretty sure it was the best PS2 game I've ever played! (note: this means that I have only played one DS DQ game and it was a spin off, DQH: Rocket Slime, BUT IT ALSO ROOCK!!! )
Why is it whenever I post in these threads, they die?
Just thought I'd mention, Dragon Quest IV is actually one of the ones I was interested in - it seems like it has an interesting structure to its story, and I already like the characters and music, thanks to Hyadain's remixes. Might even be a christmas game, if I can fit it in.
Not Chrono Trigger? Crap. Then, how about: Children of Mana? Because it's a good action-oriented RPG with good plot elements and decent, intuitive gameplay?

That's actually the first recommendation for Children of Mana that I've ever heard. Which is a good thing, since I really wanted to play it, but all the negative feedback had put me off it. It's pretty cheap these days, and after Lunar Knights, I can quite honestly say I love Dungeon-crawling Hack 'n' slash RPGs. Definitely going back on my considerations list.

Little to no plot. Unispired dungeons (90% of the game)
Mash A, Mash A, Mash A, take break, Mash A, Mash A, Mash A .....multiply that times twinfinity. Just boring, rotten, horrible game all around.
If you want to mash attack over and over again just to advance a paper thin plot you should get Kingdom Hearts 358/2 much better game.
That's the type of game I like(the less plot, the better, and I know that the combat is much deeper than you make it seem), and unlike Kingdom Hearts, Children of Mana only costs $5-$15 - a steal in my book.
