DSiWare is non-transferable, so if you decide to upgrade and sell your old unit, you have to buy them all over again.

Send to nintendo, they will save your data, call nintendo when you get your new console and then they would make a tranfer.

Seriously? I read you could do that with Wii, but not with DSi.

Yup, I found this out by calling Nintendo.....Major fail, I found that out too late, when I already got my XL and traded my first DSi.

So let me get this straight. All I would have to do is send my DSi and DSi XL to Nintendo and they would swap the games between the two units?

O_o You have both?

I think they only do it with trade-ins, I don't know if they do it if you going to keep your previous system, but there is a possibility they might?

Actually I don't have either. I was considering the purchase of a DSi XL, but decided not to when I found out about the lack of transfer between DSi and DSi XL which I'm guessing would also apply to transfer between DSi XL and 3DS.

I only have 2 reasons, the big one is that games are currently tied to a single system which doesn't allow me the opportunity to upgrade. The other reason is a minor annoyance, having to swap between memory card and system memory if I decide to play a game that is not currently on system memory. Virtual console would be awesome, but the lack of it doesn't make me hate the DSi.

Before anyone states the obvious, I read the posts above me, but it doesn't sound like a confirmation to me, has anyone actually tried sending a DSi and an XL to Nintendo?

Evidently no one has but I've called nintendo myself and thats what they told me.....I wouldn't lie, I don't think Nintendo employees would lie because, they would probably get in trouble.

I was under the impression that your old DSi needed to be broken in order for them to transfer your games.

Even still, sending both systems in is a stupid and overly expensive way to do it when every other device with downloadable media's process is: 1) connect with account 2)register and sync new device.

I don't hate anything about the dsi, in fact i love my dsi. I don't like that:
1) The camera's are too low res to be useful
2) The browser is crippled (even with the extra ram), it's really only useful at public wifi sites that are password protected from a webpage.
3) Uncertainty about transferring DSiWare to 3DS (they better allow it, seeing as the whole point of the DSi was to test the waters for portable downloadable games/build up a sweet launch library for the 3DS, imo).
4) Removal of GBA slot and no VC.

It's a great little system for what it is, and I've been enjoying it immensely.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

I don't make the rules regarding DSiWare.

I wish I did so I could make several improvements.

@R-L-A-George: Its not Nintendo's business hours right now, so calling is out of the question at the moment. Also, I'm pretty sure it wasn't necessarily directed at me, but I certainly don't think that either you or the Nintendo employee you spoke to is lying. That said, I also am unsure of what was said in the conversation, so perhaps either of you could be mistaken. I know and have experienced that Nintendo will go out of their way to take care of a customer, but officially, it still might not be policy to transfer DSiWare to a new console. I was curious whether anyone has had it done and if the result was what you presumed about whether they lost a DSi in the process..., seems kinda odd to me. Okay, I'm being overly nice, lose a DSi to get your DSiWare transferred? That sounds batpoop insane!

R-L-A-George

@sykotek I didn't missunderstand, the nintendo person spoke very coherently. I only asked about trade-ins....O_o Why would anybody want two DSi and if you are capable of getting your DSi data transfered to 3DS, why would you want to keep the DSi. Unlike the DSlite, the predescessor(spelling?) is just going to be the same. 3DS is basically going to be a DSi: app downloading capability and DS, plus the 3D and virtual console?

Perhaps you don't have to lose it...Maybe you can ask about deleting the DSiWare shop info on the system and formatting the memory?(unless you don't have to format, but they might prefer if you did)...if you want to keep it that badly.

@R-L-A-George: Why would anyone want two DSi, well, if I sent mine in to get the data transferred, I'd certainly want to receive both back, why? Because I paid for it, that's why. I understand if they delete the data off the DSi if I were transferring to the XL, but I wouldn't understand them keeping it. I'm surprised that you wouldn't wanna keep your DSi, what're you rich, do you light your cigars with money? Do you make it rain everywhere you go? If Nintendo would transfer my data from my DSi to the 3DS only if they were allowed to keep my console, that'd be ridiculous and if you're okay with just throwing away your money, you're crazy. Crazy rich and insane, so buy me one.

What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.

R-L-A-George

O_O ummm...not rich and basically trading in or selling is how I get mine cheap.....I don't think they would actually delete the data, they would probably wait til' your ready to trade or sell?

@R-L-A-George: Look, I was joking about the rich thing, although if you were rich, it'd be a nice shot to take. =D I understand that you traded in your DSi before getting an XL. You then found out about the DSi-to-XL transfer, but in order to get Nintendo to do it for you, you'd need to have a DSi, buy an XL, send both to Nintendo. That's all okay so far, what isn't okay is that Nintendo only sends you the XL back and that was the point I was trying to make. Even for those that have money, its principle. I wouldn't mind them wiping the DSi and sending it back along with the XL, but all in all, it would be best if they just fix this and that way I can stop complaining about it, at least for 3DS.

What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.

R-L-A-George

Actually they copy the data supposedly and than send it back...You trade it in or sell it, you call them and they transfer...I don't really know if you have to send your new system in or not?.....and they would actually know if you traded it in because your shop data would dissapear from your club nintendo account if you had it connected. You would have to wipeout the shop data yourself to sell it though. It would be cool if we can just trade to nintendo and get money off, if there was a way to buy directly from nintendo.
