Once again, I'm here to give Dragon Quest some due justice, it would seem. Today was the US release date (though most stores won't get it in until tomorrow) of the vanilla version of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2. This is the latest spin-off installment to my favorite series of all time, and suffice to say, I can't wait for tomorrow. If, perchance, you were planning on waiting to see if the US gets Pro, don't hold your breath; the announcement of Terry's Wonderland 3D () pretty much squashed any chances Pro had of making it here, so if you want Pro, import it.
So, feel free to discuss anything you would like about Joker 2. What's your favorite monster? Who are you glad they added/wish they had added? Which starter are you going to choose or did choose? Got a competitive team? Then show us! Share with us your FCs and maybe we can have a battle or two. And, if you want, go ahead and discuss Professional. I won't stop you, and within the next few months, maybe I will join you.
Ah yes, the age-old, solid-as-a-rock "opinion = fact" mentality. Well played. However, I suppose I cannot blame you. Dragon Quest is an acquired taste, and requires a well-developed gaming palate. Maybe in a few years you could try it again, yes? Oh right, I nearly forgot the mandatory

I love Dragon Quest but I couldn't really get into the first DQM Joker game. I thought that it was okay. I am actually more excited about the new Dragon Quest Monsters remake and the new Rocket Slime game on the 3DS. I might still pick this one up depending on the reviews and feedback.
I do have to agree with you. I loved the first three Monsters games to death, and, while Joker was a great game in its own right, it paled in comparison to its predecessors. And I am absolutely ecstatic about the remake, and the third Rocket Slime game. I'm hoping Joker 2 betters 1.
E: Just checked your post, Aqueous. Unfortunately, monsterless floors are, while not common, a fairly frequent occurrence. The so-called legendary maps include floors with only Metal King Slimes. If you've got one of those, then you are possession of a map similar to the legendaries.
@1upsuper - thank you, I have been curious about my map for about 7 months now and haven't been able to figure out how good it is. Sadly I don't have a legendary map then. I knew this was the wrong forum but I figured this one would be noticed more often.
How good are joker games, I've only played dragon quest 9 and have been looking at other parts of the sersis to try?
Too be honest I forgot there even was a DS/DSi Forum. They still make games for this obsolete dinosaur system? What's next, new Calecovision and Atari Jaguar games?
You are most welcome. And the Joker games are not my favorite entries of the Dragon Quest series, but going from IX, it should be a smooth transition for you. They are quite similar visually. If you have the chance, definitely check out Dragon Warrior Monsters 1 and/or 2, as they are superb, as well as any of the other games in the main series (as in, I-VIII). To be honest, IX was probably my least favorite of the main series and you probably missed out on a lot of fanservice in the game. I'd recommend all of the main and Monster series, but if you're looking for another more modern looking one, try VIII, or IV-VI on the DS. If you'd like to try Joker, it's about $8 at Gamestop.
I agree. DQM 1 and 2 were both outstanding games, and while Joker 1 was good, it wasn't nearly as good as the originals on GB/GBC. I can't WAIT for the remake of the first DQM game on 3DS. Bring it on!
@1upsuper - I'm good with retro, my first system being a gameboy colour that still gets some use and I still love the 8-bit graphics. Dragon Quest IX was really impressive to me, though your right I probably didn't enjoy the other game characters showing up and seeing the "puff puff" as much as someone who played the eariler titles, also it got me interested enought to pick up dragon quest wars which is a great game getting as deep as chess, though for some reason I thought it was a card game. I keep hoping that the first 3 will come to wii vc but maybe now 3ds vc instead. I don't have as much time currently to play games, so which of the current titles would you say I should try next?

My absolute favorite game of all time is Dragon Warrior Monsters 1, so I'd definitely give that a try. It will do two things well for you: introduce you to the monsters series, and give you some introduction to the sprite-based DQs.
You just have to know where to look. If you know of any used game stores in your area, hit them up. The game itself isn't that hard to find, and 2 is even easier. I picked up one version of 2 for $5. If you can't find it, however, just pick up Joker, or buy a copy on Ebay, if that's an option. Joker is still a good game, if you decide to get it.
@1upsuper - The last time I checked a game store the oldest games they had were gba games and my borther got so many broken copies of gold version off ebay, that I'm not too trusting of it. If luck brings it my way I will get it however.
