I am considering buying pokemon pearl or diamond because it is cheaper than platinum, My question is if I get diamond will there be any body to trade or battle with online, or is every body plaing platinum? I havn't played pokemon since crystal on the gbc and I am not getting platinum. So, if i get diamond or pearl will anybody trade Friend Codes with me?
You'll still be able to trade and with people who own both Pearl and Platinum. I'm not sure if you can over GTS, but there's bound to still be a bunch of people. If you don't want to get Platinum, then Diamond will still work fine.

Either listen to the above poster, or hear me out: Assuming you have Wi-Fi, Pokemon Platinum is so much more the definitive version of Pokemon than Diamond is that it's easily worth the extra $5 for a newcomer (since GBC). I really don't understand your reasoning.
Over here Platinum actually goes for the same price as Diamond and Pearl. And if it costs more money its probobaly just a few dollars/euros/pounds so there really is no reason not to pick up Platinum.
The Platinum version can trade with the other two perfectly, including battles, trading and the Global Trading Station.
