Yeah, it took me a few attempts (even with my computer no longer acting up). There's 4 levels, and be sure you only collect the orbs for the one you want to get (got Jolteon with my first successful play & had to start over). The slow down, paddle stick & paddle extend orbs were helpful too.

Sorry have jumped but I have this and got it on the launch. overall this is my favorite Pokemon title even if is a little short I'd give a 9.5/10, I have Black and have put in about 50 hours.

Hey, I finally started playing Pokemon Black, and I must say: Wow, does this game look gorgous! The Cities and the forests all look very nice, and it's cool seeing all the tall buildings and hills in this game is pretty sweet. Not to mention the battle animations.

With that out of the way, I'm actually having trouble getting into this game. I know I just need to give it time, but I just don't feel driven to go on. Seriously, I'm only an hour or two in, and I'm already bored with it, and somehow the story in this game hasn't made things more compelling either, like I expected it to. I'll try my best to keep going, though. I think I'm starting to feel some motivation coming on.

Trust me keep going. The story only gets better and there's a ton of cool little side things to do a long the way if you want to. I went into black with a negative opinion and came out with a big smile on my face.

I'd have to give the game an 7.5/10 upon completing it. I don't know, it's certainly a huge leap in the right direction and a generally fantastic game but... it feels like a ton of stuff has been left out simply for Pokémon Inevitable Gray Version. And Unova felt like one hell of a small and uninteresting region. Possibly partly because of the shadow of HGSS looming over it, but I think the main culprit is the five enormous but largely trainer-less bridges. Skyarrow bridge was fun, but the rest were... a bit pointless. I'd rather have had some real routes. There wasn't much in the way of attractions, either. No Game Corner, no Safari Zone, nothing to replace either. Team Plasma didn't exactly get much screentime, that scene in the black building in Castelia City smelled strongly of "OOPS THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE EVIL BASE PART BUT WE RAN OUT OF TIME." And N's Castle doesn't count, since there was only two battles in it, and lots and lots of walking.

Also, the gap between the Elite 4 and the next batch of trainers you get to fight is enormous. Elite 4's at Lv45ish, but then you hit the new routes and people immediately start attacking you with Lv60 Gliscors. And there's barely anyone to rebattle. No Vs Seeker, no phone, no level-upped gym leaders. Between Lv50 and 65, your money suddenly feels like a very finite and precious resource, especially with the way you'll be steaming through Hyper Potions. OK, sure, you could just go grind against wild Lv50 Audino for a while. But that's incredibly boring after not very long, and you don't get any cash out of it. You can't go back and rebattle the Elite 4, because hey presto, they're all now instantly sitting smugly around the Lv70/80 mark, as is every other important rebattle-able trainer you encountered along the story. There was a reason why FRLG and HGSS didn't do that until a significant way into the postgame, GameFreak. It's that the mid-level E4 are very good grinding material to get you toughened up quickly. Here you've got four routes of Lv60s (and pity those who have White, they don't even have the trainers in Black City to go up against) and then that's it. Into the Audino field with you.

And then there's the Battle Subway. This marks the second time that GameFreak has shoved its fingers in its ears and denied the existence of the Frontier, presumably so they can hype it up as being Super! Brand! New! again in Gray. Instead we get the Battle Tower yet again, this time laid on its side. Asides some graphics of train interior, it hasn't changed even slightly. Battle 7 trainers, get pathetic amount of BP. Attempt to reach 21, get snubbed by some astounding level of hax invariably at the 14th or 20th battle. And if you do reach the 21st, be astounded at a difficulty curve so steep it's a wonder the train doesn't crash into it. And if you do win? 10BP. That's not even enough to buy one of the power items. Y'know, those items that exist to help train your Pokémon to do well in the Subway are held back from you by not doing well enough in the Subway. I'd kind of hoped that we'd have ironed that one out, given its ever-irritating presence since Emerald. But I guess not.

So in summary, a game with plenty of great points but that ever-present GameFreak thing of holding back a load of stuff we thought had finally become standard, but apparently not.

I totally agree with this. I'm currently stuck there. I've trained my starter up to level 60, but the rest of my party is still around level 50, and it's taking forever to train them! I've already taken a couple of breaks and have been playing Spirit Tracks because the grinding was getting so boring.

So in the end, I wasn't screwed, and after a second attempt, finally caught Victiny. All in all, I'm liking this game now. While I doubt it'll usurp HeartGold, which I'm constantly tempted to go back to, I am enjoying it a great deal.

but the lack of having the ability to fight Gym Leaders again is disappointing
I also got pretty bored since there's nothing to do
Overall just the whole game should've been longer

If there's anything that BW does, it's that it proves absolutely that Grey will be f'ing amazing.

In the meantime though, I think I'm going to play through HG again.

Ok forgive me if this is a stupid question but I just want to make sure I dont have to buy anything extra like cables or what not. I just bought Pokemon White for me and Black for my son. I will be playing White on an Original DS while he will be playing Black on a DS lite I picked up at Target on clearence. Now will I be able to trade Pokemon between the Original DS and the DS lite or will I need some sort of cable or device or something else?

You can trade between the games just fine wirelessly between any two DS systems.

Ok thanks I wasnt sure how it worked the only time I traded between DS systems was Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and that was with two Original DSes.
