I doubt anyone really remembers this or can help me, but there’s this really old game or minigame or something that was on a version of the DS, a long time ago when I was a kid. All I remember from it is at least one portion (maybe the whole game?) where you were presented with a blue (I think) card and three options for what image could be on the back. I only remember a star or a mushroom, but I think there was always a third option. You then just had to pick which one you thought was on the other side of the card.

I’m trying so desperately to find this because I distinctly remember wasting hours on this game, whatever it was. I swore that by staring at the card and concentrating hard enough, I could literally see the image on the other side and I always got it right. I’m trying to find it now as an adult because I want to just look at the cards again to see if there was some pattern or something on them that led me to believe this. Can anyone help?

The star and mushroom makes me think it could be a Mario game. The Memory Match game from Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros has star and mushroom cards, but the cards are red and you have to match them in pairs so I don't think that can be what you're describing, and I've just looked at the other card minigames from those games and they don't seem like it either. Could it be something from Mario Party DS? I don't have that game so I can't check.

I don’t think it was a Mario Party game, although I do remember playing those.. I feel like it was something I did just over and over again, so it would have to be a minigame I can choose repeatedly without interruption. Most likely part of a bigger collection in a Mario game of some kind?

It was Psyche Out! One of the Wario minigames in Super Mario 64 DS!!

It even says right on the wiki that the cards were slightly transparent and you could see the image on the other side if you looked hard enough. Thank you @Dogorilla for pointing me in the right direction!!

@RubbishLeaf Ah good, glad I could help! I only checked the Luigi ones because those are mostly card-based so I thought they'd be the most likely. I vaguely remember that minigame now though.
