I've noticed both on the main news feed and a few quick searches that nobody has brought up mention of the new Lufia game coming to DS this February (In Japan, at least). I know Lufia isn't as main-stream acknowledged as other SNES and GBC rpgs (Lufia 4 did not exist.), but its score is closely on-par with Chrono Trigger and Golden Sun; I'm just suprised nobody has mentioned it yet, with the trailer having been released about a month ago.

It appears to be a remake of Lufia 2... to an extent. Clearly the whole game has been revamped and the only thing relative to Lufia 2 is Maxim and Serena, as introduced in the Trailer, and seemingly Guy, without any introduction. While the trailer-shown battle system for this new game seems less than desirable for hard-core Lufia fans who liked the battle systems of old, I for one would enjoy giving it a whirl. What really sells me on it is the breif window in the trailer in which Maxim faces off one-on-one with Gades.

As I stated from one of the many youtube posts of the above trailer,

"I hope this isn't an exact replica of the original Lufia 2, and has a completely different story arc. Some things seem very much the same, such as the flight to doom island, and definitely the two main characters, but I'd like to HOPE for some sort of epic conclusion... Or at least a final boss with kicking-awesome music. Really one of the things that put GBC's Lufia above Lufia 2 is the lack of final boss music, or any definite feel of "end game". L3 had Zalbak. And it was glorious."

Actually, while making this post and looking for my youtube comment, I came across some other things of notice, and it's highly likely this won't at all follow the Lufia 2 storyline. In fact, it might be possible that the Maxim and Serena characters are NOT the same pair as in Lufia 2. Screenshots and gameplay previews depict a large number of new characters that are unrecognizable from the original Lufia 2, as well as a party of 5 people at once during a gameplay video. Is it possible they're making a spin-off from Lufia 3's party system?

Discuss.
