well if you include gas for driving to the store, and the tax that you will get from the points, then it will be more expensive. and thats for 2000 points. if you buy 1000 points, then its way cheaper lol

In my area it's cheaper to buy from the game store. I can buy 2000 pt card from gamestop for $20.00 out the door, but if I use a credit card to purchase them from the DSi Shop, I'm taxed.

That's weird, what state do you live in? In VA no tax for purchasing points online (though we're SUPPOSED to claim them on our income taxes and pay sales tax that way...yeah right), but there's a 5% sales tax in stores. Needless to say, I use a credit card to buy online. It's just more convenient too. It really just would depend on if your state requires you to pay tax online and what the rate of sales tax is for in-store purchases.
Right now my state (Illinois) has no sales tax on gift cards and online store credit-ish stuff (iTunes, Nintendo Ponts, etc.) bought from brick-and-mortar stores, but because it's Illinois state politics that decides this kind of stuff that may change. I don't know about Credit cards because 1. I don't have one; 2. I could never convince my parents to let me use one of their credit cards to do something I could easily do without major drawbacks otherwise.

In Mississippi the taxes are the same (7% sales tax)

In the UK they used to sell Nintendo points online through Tescos, a department-type grocery store, for a few pounds cheaper and it came with free delivery. The only problem with that is the scratch point card came in a DVD case with a whole bunch of paperwork and advertisements inside the case. What a stinking waste of packaging! They've stopped selling them which is just as well, because I'd rather just order them directly through Nintendo with a credit card.

I find it easier and cheaper to just buy the codes via email on ebay. Once you have a trusted supplier, normally an ebay shop that supplies gaming goods rather than an individual one off seller then you can get the points quick, easy and cheaper.
Only negative thing I have come across is that it isnt instantly, you usually have to wait until the supplier has checked his account and for him to send an email but its never taken more than 24 hours to arrive. Usually I get 2000 points for £13 - £15
