Topic: nextgen 3D engine for DS

Hey guys,

Last few months I've been busy with new projects. One of them was a FPS game. I build a new 3D engine for it,
with cool next gen effects (like bumpmapping). But after the annoucement of 3DS I stopped development on this game,
because I don't think it will survive in the hype-storm the 3DS will create.

Anyway, I thought some of you might think this is cool or intresting so :

A first-person shooter for DSiWare? I'd totally buy into that!
DSiWare is really going to be the only thing that'll keep me hanging on to my DSi. I can see why you'd be apprehensive, though. It DOES look nice!

I'm working on a game that's coming out soon!

Isn't that gun straight out of Killzone 2?(after reading it seems it might be)

Do you think you might put the game on the 3DS instead though, or would you think expectations would put it out of reach?(that'd be sad)

I dunno, I think it looks pretty good Hugo. It really depends on both how much time you've put into it and when you think you can finish it. You can't expect 3DS to release prior to November and they'll probably need to have DSiWare to flush out its library at launch, so yea, it'll probably still be worth finishing up if you think its up to snuff.

What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.

hey guys, thanks for the compliments.

I don't think this will work on 3DS. Why not ? because I'm alone. You need a big team to get this kind of
stuff up to the level of Metal Gear or Resident Evil. I can easily get the engine/tech on that level, but
filling the game world with good models + art is hard. You need alot of people

Well I don't think anyone expects you to match big budget productions, especially if it'd be on the inevitable 3DSware. Even more so if it's just an arcadey monster killer game. I'd buy it!(but that probably doesn't mean much:p)

Honestly it'll be sad if the little guys get left out on the 3DS.

I'd like to see a new Flipper game on 3DS. Now THAT would be something to see.

Plain old gamer :)

Yer, I think the Voxels would look awesome in 3D!

Looks really nice! I'd love to see something like that on DSiware, especially if it could have a single card multiplayer mode. Sure you are not going to finish it? 3DS doesn't even have a release date after all. Perhaps you could make it a multiplayer only, arena style game? Then you wouldn't need to spend lots of time with a campaign mode and could get it done before the 3DS is out.

@abgar;

Don't worry; I'm working on a DSi-Ware title. Just not a 3D FPS. The risk is too high (I think).
A FPS title gets a lot of buzz because of it's looks. Sure, my engine is looking very good for a
DSi, but it falls short with the images from 3DS.

I think alot of (news) sites will leave me out in the cold, because it's just not as impressive as
the 3DS stuff.

So I'm back at 2D pixels

@Oregano:

Well, it's easy to say that nobody expects big budget titles from me. But what's left to make ? in order to use and
show the effects the engine can handle I need big-budget materials. For example, the models need more than
just a texture map, they also need a normal/bump texturemap.

So suddenly the artists work doubles (or in some cases triples). Now I can cut some weapons,enemies and levels,
but that would leave the end user with a pretty bare game....
