So I just started Golden Sun: Dark Dawn and I just left Kaperoa Ruins. I'm enjoying it so far and the Training grounds and Encyclopedia have given me a nice refresher on the last two games. Only fault so far is that the inventory system needs work. i'm liking the the different emotes for answers and was suprised to see the old gang back. Also Blados and his gang are cool with the grappling hooks.

I hated the Encyclopedia. I regret spending so much time reading information I already knew. It's not a good way to re-introduce plot...like the Training grounds. That was silly and awesome.

The gameplay's great as always but I really had problems with the story. It's not bad but the first half feels pointless a lot of the time and the 2nd half has way too many conversations where they spend 20 minutes to say something that could be said in 5.

Personally, i don't think Dark Dawn is as good as it's predecessors. Although it is still the best RPG on the DS. The sad thing is, that i doubt that Camelot or any other developer will ever be able to accomplish the same things on any other game. There is no other RPG better than the first 2 Golden Suns. I'd love to classify that statement as being my opinion only, but i cannot =P Those titles are truly masterpieces. Best RPG ever. And for me, the best game i have ever played ^^ But of course, All of Nintendo Games are of flawless quality

I'm about 11 hours in and I have to say you must not play too many RPGs. If you think Golden Sun Dark Dawn is the best on DS or the GS GBA games are the made then whoa. Its def in my top five though.

From a techincal standpoint, they are You probably didn't like it as much. Wich is alright, seeing as we are all entitled to our opinions and tastes. But from a technical analysis, they are.

Sound design is mesmerizing. It completely pushed the system to its limits. As no other game on the GBA had such incredible tunes like those games had.

Visual presentation is excellent as well. The game even had actual frame rate drops from some combat animations. The character sprites, spells, attacks, etc. Everything is crafted marvelously.

Gameplay was just right. The fast-paced combat scenery is refreshing and doesn't die out, no matter how many times one replays the game. Everything flows perfectly.

The Story was the best part of it. After the first 5 minutes, you're completely hooked. The way everything is described and presented, just adds up to the ability Golden Sun has to completely suck players in. Truly a high quality RPG.

So there you have it. Some people may not share the same point of view, wich is perfectly acceptable.

I'd say Mother 3 or The FF remakes for GBA for me. I do love the Golden sun music. Didn't know it was done by the same composer of the tales games.

@shingi_70 I agree! I've played both Golden Sun 2 and Mother 3, and I think M3 beats it completely. The story's more compelling in Mother 3 (even a bit strange ), graphics are quite good in both games, but I prefer M3's 2D. And finally, the music is clearly better in Mother 3 (I just can't stop listening to that music! ).

Currently playing: Persona 4 Golden (Vita), Persona (PSP), Disgaea 3 (Vita), Yumi's Odd Odyssey (3DS), Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS).
Recently finished: Pokémon X (3DS), Persona 3 Portable (PSP), Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS), Virtue's Last Reward (3DS).

It's alright. I hate having to hold A to keep the battle going, and I hate that you can permanently miss Djinni and those summon stones. The dungeons were a lot of fun though. I need to go back and finish it, but it's annoying going through a game when you're constantly worrying that you'll miss something important. >_>

as far as i remember, in the other games you could permanently miss some djinni too. personally i found dark dawn too easy compared to the other 2 games, and i wish there was multiplayer battles.

It's a shame that Dark Dawn does not live up to the GBA games. It's still great, but just doesn't that have same flawless overall game design.

I mean, the 2 Golden Suns are by far the best RPG i have played. They truly challenged the GBA in every single aspect. Sound Design was so gorgeous, that there was not a single bad track in the game. The battle system was fresh, and fast-paced. The plot was outstanding, and the visuals? Don't get me started on that.

I mean, this all happened on the GBA for pete's sake

I love Final Fantasy, The Mana series, The Mother series, But Golden Sun just got it right.

From a technical stand point? Have you ever seen Skyrim or Mass Effect 2 running on a high-end computer? Because I can assure you, no matter how good you think the DS makes games look, it can't come near to those. And yes, they ARE RPGs. I know a lot of people who like this variant of RPGs consider games like TES as abortions, but they are RPGs regardless. I consider them fun.

Not saying they are better than Golden Sun. I haven't had the privilege of playing that series yet. They look like good fun. But you were saying that the first two Golden Sun games were better than any other RPG in every category. And you said it was fact, not opinion. It's fine if you think they are the best RPGs ever. But you can't try and force everyone to favor them, and then when you get backlash from it, pretend that everyone can have their own opinion, even though you clearly stated that it is fact. Which it obviously isn't.

Wait, I never got to ask! What does Golden Sun have to do with LTTP? That's incredibly random and the only explanation for why that I can think of is just...dumb.

Ugh. and in a couple of years they will look like crap while Golden Sun 1 and 2 still look great and DS looking decent.

and this is coming from a Mass Effect Fanboy.

Mass Effect might end up ok because of the colorful planets and cool sci-fi designs (that's partially why Metroid Prime 1 still looks great).

I just got Golden Sun Dark Dawn today second hand from a friend and it's really good so far. I think the Encyclopedia is neat for those of us who never played the GBA GS titles as feels me in on things that I didn't know . I also like the Wise One concept.
