Topic: Just how rare IS Tetris DS?

I think a lot of you guy's definition of rare is off. Tetris DS is by no means rare. Just type the name of the game in Google Shopping and you'll see a boatload of copies. A rare game is a game where you'd be hard pressed to ever see even one copy listed online.

We're talking $50+ for a new or slightly used copy rare. Thankfully they're doing a sequel...or releases or whatever soon.

It started when someone mentioned Vulpix. LOL it happens, when a reference is mentioned and spawns another conversation.

Yeah and Vulpix is strong too, XD my first was the hardest to catch.

It's probably a boatload of bootlegs.
(though you shouldn't have much trouble finding a few legal copies at any time on ebay, as long you're willing to pay the price.)

In regards to games going out of print: As much as I'd love to easily find certain games after buying my DSi 5 years into it the system's generation, it is a pretty unrealistic expectation that companies print games for the entire time the console is available. The longer a game is out, (due to things like piracy, used game sales, and price cuts) it becomes less and less profitable to manufacture a specific title. I imagine most companies would rather take that money and put it towards development of a new title rather than get razor thin profits on an older one. There's also the fact that most stores have a limited inventory size and will stop stocking titles after a certain amount of time anyways.

I'm not necessarily saying I'm in love with it, but I do understand why games go out of print after a while.

I can understand if a game's not selling enough to be profitable anymore. However, when a game is still selling at it's original price, I don't understand why companies stop producing it. Probably licensing issues. I doubt pirating is really that big an issue though. It's not like you really have to wait more than a couple of weeks, max, before someone's dumped a rom. I'm guessing the proportion of pirates to legal copies stays fairly level from a little after the time the rom's been dumped, until the game goes out of print. Then more people, when given the choice to pay $40 for a used copy or nothing for a rom, make the choice to download the games.
