Topic: Is using a GBA:SP Battery in a Nintendo DS feasible? Are there any good brands?

My DS isn't holding a charge, and it's battery is bulging, I need to replace it. issue is. NOBODY seems to have replacement NTR-003 batteries anymore, neither official nor 3rd party. I also know that DS Lite and DSi batteries won't work in an original DS.

I remember reading that if you cut off the plastic pegs on a GBA:SP battery, it will work in a DS. Is that feasible to do? Especially since the GBA's battery was 600mAh while the DS's was 850mAh, giving me even lower runtime on a charge? Will the lack of tabs if I cut them off make the battery loose or prone to disconnecting and thus shutting off my system or shorting?

And if all that is feasible.... the other issue is that there are tons of people peddling their own brands, nearly all of them that look like Chinese/Hong Kong trash that I really do NOT want to risk blowing up in my face..... possibly literally. Are there any brands or places to purchase that one can recommend?

@Lucarian There haven't been any new DSs made in about a decade, if I bought a used one, it would still have a used battery that is likely worn out too.

Also, are you seriously suggesting "just pay $80 for a 2DS" that won't be able to play my GBA games instead of replacing a $10 battery?

DS Lite plays GBA games, in case you didn't know. The hump isn't much of a bother. I would suggest calling, or sending an email or post to Nintendo support that covers your region if you want an original battery.

As a side note, which doesn't concern you since a bulging battery doesn't sound good: the way I make my depleted DS Lite battery begin taking a charge is warming it up with my hands for about a minute, putting in back in and plugging in the adapter.

I know, but it shrinks the image due to the screen being higher resolution, and if you zoom the image is blurry because it can't map the pixels at a 1:1 ratio then. I would rather just play my DS games on a DS and my GBA games on a GBA.

I'm confused, since you said:

Anyway, I'd like to add that despite not having a 1:1 pixel ratio (though still keeping the accurate aspect ratio) DS games look very nice on the (New) 3DS/2DS XL. Even the pixel art looks surprisingly well preserved, and in any case it's a lot better than looking at the miniscule screens you get with 1:1 mode.
