It sold over 2 million, but the license didn't last long, and I heard maybe only 100,000 of those copies were for NA (Tetris is far more popular in Japan than the US), so it quickly became outrageously expensive and hard to find, but then there were bootleg copies made of it galore and the price went down because of it.
Not really. The only reason it may fetch a high price is cause of idiots who think it's worth more then it is just cause its out of print. However there were alot of copies sold before it went out of print so that makes it not really that rare.
