How does one break into developing for this platform? Given my reasonably decent programming skill and composing ability (and sub-par graphic-design skills) this seems like my cup of electronic tea. Has there been any public information on how one acquires a license, what type of programming environment is best suited for DSi-app use, price of Dev-kits, etc.?
I remember seeing something, back around the WiiWare genesis, stating it cost around $10,000 (US) to get a license/dev kit, and you needed some sort of programming portfolio to "apply" for the above...but again, by my own admission, these memories are hazy/absent...thanks habits-developed-in-highschool!
Any info on this would rock the house...and any <EDIT[[bedroom-designers that wanna talk ideas!]] -- if you design bedrooms, you need not apply. I words things gud.>
I've heard that the DSiWare Dev-kits are cheaper than the WiiWare ones, which makes sense, but I can't remember what the figure was. If you got in touch with Nintendo I'm sure they'd send you the info.
they arent cheaper actually, they are more expensive
anyway good luck i would do iphone first if i was you, its going to take you months to become a nintendo developer, and you will need a office and previous professional experience, and also pay the ESRB and loads of other fees
not trying to discourage you, just telling the truth
we are going to go threw a USA publisher with Oyaji Games to go onto DSiware and Wiiware because it takes so long to become a dev even with a contact there
thanks guys--wow, a forum with an actually helpful population! Bye gamefaqs!
Yeah, just emailed them and was insta-directed to the part of the site that told me my home office didn't meet the requirements...tis a shame. I guess I gotta pull a Nifflas and put out some head-turning freeware before I can even start making required contacts...
It's really unfortunate, given that there are so many hoops to jump through, that we still get such a boundless stack of shovelware for all Nintendo platforms.
Thanks for prompt responses all!

Oh wow, thanks for the clarification! Thinking on it, I might have heard the dev kits were cheaper for apps rather than games. I get confused about this stuff easily.
@Chicken Brutus: Stop digging yourself into a hole, fool!
It's a shame that it will take so long to get sorted and will cost a big chunk o' money though. Maybe everyone on here should pitch in, and we make NintendoLife: The game (Subtitled: The Virtual Console Archive to UberNintendoLife).
This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
