It's pretty good. jumping on the tiles has a bit of strategy to it, especiallly in the boss battles. A is slash with the weapon, B is dash, and Y is for shuriken. It's also a lot harder than I expected. so far I'd give it an 8.5.
It is really fun, and like what Fliptocat said, it has a bit of strategy to it. The controls are simple, and the game does get pretty hard. The graphics are pretty retro, looking like an old Snes game. The music is pretty much the same as in every ninja game, japaneese drum and flutes. There is one mode, which has you playing through levels and trying to get a higher score.
So far, my first impressions are an 8/10, and a great 200 point game.
Great game. Just beat it (60 stages), and can see myself replaying it attempting to go through with no continues. Very fluid controls, nice clean graphics and all around fun to play game. I look forward to upcoming games in the G.G series.
I've played it for a little bit, and while it's not perfect, it's still pretty fun. I have two major problems with the game though: 1. Non-randomized levels make the game less interesting and (somewhat) less challenging. It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but still, that would've been nice, and 2. Shuriken pretty much seem useless, since the ninjato (or whatever sword our bouncing friend is using) makes short work of pretty much everything. Ultimately, given those two things, it's price and the amount of levels, I'd give it around a 7.5/10.
Definitely a fun little game. What makes the G.G. Series so great is that nearly all of them are little gems like this. Makes you wonder how long Suzak took to make each one since they did 30 for the Collection and there's two sequels already in the past year.
@Birdman: the shuriken is useful against enemies with weapon reach beyond your sword which turn up after level 4, though I agree, I usually forget to make use of it.
Me too. And holding up on the D-pad when you land makes you jump higher.
@Sean- I was excited for this because of your impressions of the G.G games, and I can't wait for a review of the collection. I hope it comes to the states since their releasing DSiWare here.

Not really, the reason you may hear "without continues" often is because the game keeps track of how far you got with 1 continue as well as your score. On my first playthrough, I'd guess I used around 20 continues, and had a few moments of outright frustration. The game has some hard moments, but thanks to unlimited continues, with a bit of practice you'll master the controls and become a killing machine. Getting through on 1 continue is the real challenge, and that certainly isn't easy.

Woot this game owns.
Current best: Hi Score: 155,690 Max Level: 60
Actually had 0 lives left when I killed the final Ninja Master....I almost catch myself wishing it was a 500 point title with some more content...just the right amount of simplicity. Definitely gonna score-run this one some more times before I retire it--great little title. Hopefully we'll get the rest of this series.
I thought this was a decent game at first, but it's only because it's the default action game I had unlocked in the Collection that I've really put in some time with it and the ways you can improve your game really make it shine. I cannot imagine a review will be too far off; hopefully the reviewer will note the depth of control available behind the simplicity.
With regard to the collection, it's just going to be an FI because it's an import title and this isn't really a Japanese import site.
