Has anyone picked this up? From the trailer, it looks pretty cool, especially for 200 points. I'm thinking about buying it, and I was wondering if anyone here has any impressions they could share. I'm just wondering about a few things, like, how long you can record, how many special effects there are, or if you need someone else to make movies with.

Edit: Finally forced myself to get it. Hoping I don't regret it!

This app is great! The chroma keying effects work really well, (considering this is on a DSi) the amount of customization is great, and it's just a lot of fun to mess around with. Definitely worth $2. Also, important tip, don't play the saved videos with Windows Media Player. It makes the videos look awful, like, so bad I could barely even read any of the text on screen. At first I just thought the app made really low quality videos, but then I found out that other players, like QuickTime, play them great! The saved videos look just as good as they do on the DSi's or 3DS's screen.

I got this game on Friday. It's really well made, well worth the $2. Wish it could do longer than 5 second clips in high quality, but a lot can be done in 5 seconds (look at Vine videos). I'm using it to try to recreate some famous scenes, then I'll export them to my video editor of choice to make slightly longer movies.

Seems like you just' you and I in this thread. Have you had more chances to play with it? I'm trying to recreate some famous movie scenes, but this would be a lot better if I could add effects in post.

Hi retropyor. This is the developer. You should be able to add pretty much any effect and sound in post, after recording a plain video. Except if you use custom video background, in which case post effects are disabled. If you have any questions regarding functionality, features or effects, let me know.

so is this app really as bad as the review on this site makes it out to be?

Nope! TBH, I don't even think the reviewer even knew how to use it properly. For example, look at this quote from the review:

NL Review of I am in the movie wrote:

If all you’re interested in is overlaying text on your images, changing the picture colour, or adding a simple audio visualizer over your video, then you’re in luck; anyone hoping to get more out of this one will find nothing but disappointment.

That sentence is so wrong... you can do so much more with this app. While it has a few neat effects, it also has chroma keying, which allows you to replace the background with your own images or video (Video! I've been looking for an easy way to do this for ages, and the Windows Movie Maker method was too much of a hassle to use.), so you can make it look like you're in space or whatever you want, and it also allows you to create simple objects and move them around the screen in a variety of ways, so you can make it look like a barrage of missiles get fired at you or like a meteor crashes into your house. (That last one may be hard though because, from my experience, the camera never focuses to the brightness outside) All that said, it has it's flaws and annoyances, and don't get it thinking you can use it to make an actual high quality movie. It's a lot of fun to mess around with, and you can certainly use it to make silly videos or movies, but it is far from professional. Still, it's two bucks, it's fun, and it's worth it if you like this kind of thing. Also, here's a video of a couple of clips I made with this app. (You can export them to your SD card. I stitched them together with Windows Movie Maker)

It's just a lot of fun!

so is it worth it if the 3DS can record video?

Of course! The 3DS can record video in the camera app, but you can't use it to add any effects. If you have a DSi, that's even more reason to get it because it's the only app that can record video with sound. (Keep in mind you can only record 5 or 10 second videos, 5 having higher quality)

You are merely IN the movie. I AM the movie!

When I saw the title of this thread, this here is what popped into my head.

I have nothing really to say about myself.

Think somebody should come out with a tutorial for creating simple movies. I've been playing with it for an hour or so, but I'm a bit over my head.

Hi - I see you've just joined. Welcome.

I also see that you've dug up a dead thread to show us your freedom from punctuation, so I'm gonna take this opportunity to close this.

While the thread was dead, it's also about a game, so we can allow it to be revived if the reason was legitimate.

So nice to see unity amongst the moderating staff.

I for one agree with @gcunit — this is almost a 2-year old thread that was posted in by someone who apparently has no desire to communicate with any form of grammar or punctuation, nor even express a genuinely coherent thought.

It's fine, I think game specific thread should be left open; if no one else replies, it'll get buried again soon enough. If a certain user digs up too many old thread, we'll give him/her a warning instead.
