I play flight control plenty, trying to beat my last top score. It and Dracula: Undead Awakening are the best two games on the DSi for filling in 20 minutes of time.

Fair enough. But I don't use the DSi to waste time. I used it as a gaming machine, to quench my thirst for gaming. Beating my best score... yawn. Granted it's my fault for buying it in the first place, but I expected more for the price.

I think the problem is that it only offers a similar experience to Pyoro, Paper Airplane and Army Defender which are all 200 points and in the case of Army Defender you could argue more polished and content filled.

It wasn't all that long ago that was pretty much all gaming could offer - high scores, and the need to beat those high scores. Think about Pacman, Space Invaders etc etc.

Flight Control is certainly on par with a number of other 500 point games that people enjoy plenty much - most of the Art Style games, for instance, don't offer much more by way of modes of play than Flight Control.

I'm not so sure about that. I've bought all the art style games for both Wii and Dsi , but I guess only the Dsi ones are relevant to this conversation. Anyway, I thought all of them had levels, difficulty settings, etc. The only one I'm not sure about is Intersect - I didn't like it at all, probably for the reason that it's only about beating scores... but I can't remember in truth. I'm almost certain it's all about score beating.

But the others, Aquite, Code, Boxlife, Picopict, Nemrem all had levels etc, and other modes.

As to the Pacman, Space Invaders etc , decent point, but look at the likes of Space Invaders extreme etc that have been released, there's a lot more to it then simply score beating.

Off-topic, but Intersect has versus mode and difficulty levels, but I sort of agree with you about the main mode, I usually only play versus against the AI every now and then.

There is? Must have missed that memo.

Damn, what's with the hate for this game? Not like there's some mystery, the videos look pretty clear-cut to me. I'm still gonna throw down 500pts. for it if/when it hits Japan.

Check your tray again then. The game has stages i.e levels. That's what I mean by 'more then score beating' things to do, a common goal, other then beating a high score. Ranks are also awarded.
Nice bit of ass pwnage for a Thursday afternoon

Well I was thinking about getting this. After reading these comments I don't believe I will now. Thanks.

Right, though these "stages" all look pretty much the same - it's not like the gameplay is changing is it? I suppose to your mind Tetris is a big waste of time since it also continues endlessly?

It is a nice enough game. I think a lot of us just expected more. Beating ones own score is ok, but what about unlockables or an online leaderboard? Even with the cabinet games (yes I remember when Pac Man was new and in a box every five feet in the mall), there was a community high score board to compete against. The cost to try was 25 cts.
If a sequel to this game comes out, then hopefully the developers take in our input and implement a lot of the ideas that we have put out there. That would guarantee me dropping another 500 points on their products.

The original Tetris, yeah not my bag.
But Tetris DS on the other hand....

Space Invaders 1's adventure mode is a little more meaty and a little more challenging. Its not quite as enjoyable as no.2, but still a DS classic imho.
