i don't know if there is a forum for this game so i'll ask. i am considering getting this game(and possibly EBA 2) and wanted opinions on it. it appears highly recommended so i'm curious what gamers actually think instead of critics(maybe they are the same?). any comments?

EBA didnt have a sequel but it did have its japanese only counterparts and I highly recommend all 3, but mostly the japanese ones

EBA is a great game and I really enjoyed it, but it's definitely a niche game. If you like music games then you'll enjoy it. If you like Japanese zaniness then you'll like it. If you don't like either of those, then you probably won't like it.

you should be able to pick up EBA for cheap, so get that and see if you like it. if you do, then look into getting the Ouendan games. personally, i love rhythm games, and EBA was so fresh and fun it had me absolutely hooked until i'd completed it. even now i like going back every so often and playing it for a while :3

Yeah I picked up a copy for $5. I never see it more than $10 so it is very cheap and still one of my favorite DS games. Highly recommended by me and addictive as hell. I can't remember how many times i got frustrated on a part, swore it off and then find myself playing it again 5 minutes later lol.

I need to find a copy of Ouendan. It's sequel is still available, but it's hard tracking down the original. Loved EBA so much.

@WaveBoy: agreed on the soundtrack... i just wish there'd been more songs to choose from to offset the fact that i'm not a fan of half of them. it's definitely saying something about how fun the game itself in when people are praising it regardless of the lame soundtrack, though :3

If so many people loved EBA, so why isn't there a sequal!!??
C'mon Nintendo, make that into reality!!

No one knows what kind of games I play!!

Terave

EBA was one of my favorite DS games: The songs weren't all my thing, but I loved the game itself. The difficulty is higher then the most games out there for DS.

Elite Beat Agents & the Ouendan series are great games! I have all of them. I played EBA first, then Ouendan 2, and finally Ouendan.

If you want to see if you like the game, definitely start with EBA. First of all it's quite easy to find, and cheap to boot. Not only that but because it's a rhythm game it'll be a lot easier to play if you have some familiarity with the songs, which wouldn't be the case with the Japanese games unless you're... really on top of J-pop/rock, I guess. Plus, a lot of the charm of the games comes from the absolutely insane "plot" attached to each song, which obviously you'll miss out on if you can't understand Japanese.

That being said, Ouendan 2 is my favorite in the "trilogy" (and not just because it has the best title ever--"Burn! Hot-Blooded Rhythm Spirit: Hey! Fight! Cheer Squad 2"). It's got the best overall plot (well, ok, it's the only one with any real semblance of an overall plot) and I think I also like the song selection most out of the series. Then again, that could also be because "Julia ni Heartbreak" was one of my favorite songs before I even heard of the series, but whatever. It's got a lot of improvements over the other titles, like the ability to skip ending sequences as well as opening sequences (EBA only let you skip openings, and the original Ouendan... nothing), more replay data slots, and other assorted things. I also think it's harder than EBA, which is nice, a little more of a challenge!

The original Ouendan is obviously the skimpiest on extras and is also of noticeably lower graphical quality, but it's also older than the other two games so that's not really its fault. As a note, I think this one is the hardest one of all because I found it to have a big spike in difficulty. EBA and Ouendan 2 got really difficult, to be sure, but it was a lot more balanced. With the original Ouendan it was like driving along smoothly and then BAM a brick wall. I realized why the person who owned it before me had given up on the game at that very stage.

By the way, because you'd almost undoubtedly be buying these games used, in order to delete an existing save file you'll have to hold A+B+X+Y+L+R on the Nintendo/iNiS logo screen. That's the information typed right out of my Ouendan manual and it's the same for the whole series.

edit: oh man I realize how TL;DR this looks, sorry. In short: they good games

EBA is great. And personally, I say every bad song in the game is made up for with the last two, even if they're still covered.

I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am.

It is one of my favorite, if not my all time favorite, DS games for sure. By the way, you can buy it new still at most Gamestops and on Amazon for $10, due to the game having poor sales and there being plenty of leftover copies. (only around 179,000 were sold as a matter of fact) Those sales are surely going to be the reason why we won't be getting a sequel anytime soon even though Reggie said he hopes that there will be a sequel. I know I really would like a sequel to the game.

EBA is an amazing game! it can get a difficult though (i was never able to unlock the 3 extra songs). but its definitely worth buying! i hope they bring the Ouendan series to the Eshop (with English subtitles)
