Ok first of all I've heard mixed responses about the dsi xl screen and there's only one video on youtube that shows the screen up close but I can't really tell 100% from the video but here's the thing; are the larger pixels noticable? Do games look worse on teh DSI XL than they do on regular DSI?
And one other thing, there are only 2 colours for DSI XL; burgundy and apparently brown. In the pictures the brown looks black but does the actual thing itself look black? Tbh I would much rather have black than brown but if it is brown I'd rather have the burgundy so yeah... please tell me that too if you don't mind
I have dark brown... tbh it is darker then dark chocolate... i'd say go for the brown!
Secondly, the simple answer is... it depends on what game tbh. I know that's not helpful. But trust me, you'll spend your time going 'WOW' rather then 'Eww' at the bigger screens and what shows up on them!
I'm so looking forward to getting my tax refund check; the DSi XL is an immediate purchase afterwards. Going to probably grab a burgundy; bronze looks too dull for my tastes. Looking forward most to RPGs on it for the larger text resolution. On that point, for those that have the XL, how do RPG text-boxes look? Sharp?
I really don't notice any pixelization. First off, the images are usually moving, so it would be difficult to detect. And second, I'm usually too deep into the action to pay much attention to the graphics. Like T-Neu said, it's a wow effect. There's no comparison to the other DS models. If portability is your main concern, you may not like the size and weight of the unit. Otherwise, it's difficult to complain.
The explanation for why most games don't look all pixellated is that they're actually made at a higher resolution than the DSi screens can display, so they scale up to the larger screens of the XL/LL without any impact.
I do have one game that seems to suffer a bit, Majong Quest Expeditions, but it doesn't affect gameplay - it's just clearly not as detailed as other games I've played which use mahjong tiles (Handy Mahjong, for example).
You can't watch videos on the DSi browser because it doesn't have Flash. However the Wii browser can.
@Koops3 There's no need to revive a dying thread. I don't have an XL, I don't want it, and I won't be interested in the 3DS until it's been out for some time and proves itself.
the pixels don't look bad at all. every game ive played on my xl looks brighter and better; there is no distortion or pixelation at all. an no, you can't play movies on any dsi unless you have iplayer.

Oh cool, thanks. I'm definately going to get an XL then. Dunno when though, I'm short on cash at the moment but will get one later this year...August & the earliest.
yup. there are alot of haters out there who are saying it sucks, but those are the people who have never played one. (or the people who just got a dsi and like typical fanboys will diss the system they don't have) the only complaint i have about it (and it's a very small complaint) is that the top part of the casing is glossy and gets smudges and fingerprints all over. i just put a bunch of stickers on it, though and problem solved. The dsi xl is a great system (just like the dsi) and which one you buy is really a question of personal preference. i went for the larger screens, but i can see how if you have alot of dsiware on your normal dsi it would not be worth it.
I got the Burgundy DSi XL and its great, larger screens better then the DSi which i still have. Games looks and feel better on and if you get the iplayer which i also have it can play movies and all gba games. If you dont have a DSi then get the DSi XL, if you do have the DSi and still want the DSI XL get that as well, and like me if you not getting and dont care for the 3DS then still get the DSi XL. Just sayin the DSi XL is great have!
