I am thinking about buying a DSi this summer, but with DSi XL release date announced should I get a regular DSi or a DSi XL?

So many good games, so little money to spend.

Since they are essentially the same system, it's all a matter of personal preference. Are you going to be using it a lot when you go out? Will the larger size make that inconvenient? Does the larger size even matter to you? Is it something you want to spend $20 extra for?

Wait for E-3 and see if they announce DS2 for Christmas 2010.

Best advice you gonna get.

Plus DSiXL could get a price cut if it is slow sales to start.

More than meets the eye!

My thing is this...what is the point a portable system thats not all that portable? I know many people that really don't take their DS's anywhere, so yeah, I guess it is a good purchase for them. I play 90% of my DS gaming at home, but for those few times (like Tuesday I was at jury duty from 8 am-5:30 pm) and my DS saved my life. So, I guess it really depends on if you think you will ever take it anywhere with you. While I am skipping out on the DSi XL...I can't wait for the next generation.

Well I know my DSi has saved my butt at work all the time. I am currently working overnight at a hotel as a front desk clerk and needless to say it is BOOOOOORING!!!! So it helps that I bring that and my laptop to work. Funny, I am at work right now typing this. Anyways. Back to the original question. I would honestly wait for a release for the next gen. on nintendos handhelds. Now if you feel compelled to really get one now then just go with the DSi, bigger screens just seem stupid to me.

I think we have similar tastes in portable gaming. I usually use my DSi at home (though when I return to my Wii that will be less the case), but I do occasionally have long train/bus/plane rides where it saves my life too.

I would go with the regular DSi myself, even if I hadn't gotten one already. Here's why:

1) Smaller and more portable (easy to fit into a regular sized purse with all my other stuff, even with a case), but still big enough to see the screen easily and use the touch screen well...the screens are still bigger than the Phat and Lite's were.
2) $20 cheaper for essentially the same product.
3) I don't want the DSiWare packed in (Some brain age type game and something else, but neither are interesting to me), so no crap wasting very limited memory space and crowding my menu.
4) Better colors. I have a black DSi to contrast with my white Wii.

Since it's out in a couple weeks, I'd just find a Target or Gamestop with a display model so you can check out the size difference and screen resolutions in person to see which one you'd prefer.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

The only differences are screen size and price, so the question is: do you want bigger screens, a less portable system and pay a higher price, or do you wan't smaller screens a more portable system and pay less?

Screen size and price are the major differences, but there are a few others changes. For starters the XL screens were built with wide viewing angle LCD, something they couldn't afford to do on the old DS or the DSi. In my mind the XL was designed for all the older people that seem to like playing Brain Training type games. They didn't just want larger more viewable screens, they wanted larger buttons and stylus as well.

If you believe bigger is better and worth $20 Extra it is really simple to decide which to get. I personally want an XL because Heart gold and wario diy are going to look stunning with a bigger screen. If you have a ds lite and like the picture on that imagine what it is going to look like on a screen that is almost 2 times the size.

The bigger screen is really handy for making stuff out more easily. I know some people think it's just going to be a pixellated mess blowing up a standard DS image, but I've not found that to be the case at all. I really cannot see going back to the teeny tiny GB Micro again!

I do own a DSi myself and when the DSi XL drops on March 28 i will get that also why because the screen is bigger and better why because with the DSi the screen is small from day one and sometimes hard to lookin up things, with a bigger screen its better with games makin game with full screen and better. Still will always keep my DSi begin in good used. If you dont own a DSi or lite then get the DSi XL worth the extra 20$. I will still be able to put it in my purse and they do have case for it larger size dont matter. The question is if you want to buy it i say go for it?
