Im a long time gamer(mostly mmo/fps) but when it comes to my daughter I think my gaming gene didnt get passed on. She likes the wii and is ok at MKW but yet finds lego starwars hard. She wants a DS because some friends of hers have it. However I have no clue what games she might be able to play. Any one have any ideas for games? keep in mind shes only in second grade so anything with text directions will be difficult to play by her self. on a side note I heard you could do some sort of IM from it?
the ds has ds download play a service where anyone who has just one copy of the game can play wirelessly without the other people having the game and oly 1 person needs the game to play together but this is on that use this function. i would suggest mario party ds if you already have 2 ds's then you could play together.
This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
@hoodtrix: there's Mario Kart DS if she likes MKWii, and then there's all kinds of cute non-games she as a non-gaming second-grader might like -- Nintendogs, the entire Imagine series... and if you want to try to get her into some cute actual games, there's Kirby Superstar Ultra, The Legendary Starfy, Super Princess Peach, and other milder games available for her to try. If you'd like to try and get her into older platformers, too, the DS phat and lite are both equipped with the GBA slot, so that you can find the Super Mario Advance series for her to play as well. She may like those. :3
as for IMing, you may be thinking of PictoChat. PictoChat is only able to connect to other DS systems within its range (about 65 feet, according to Nintendo), and to be completely honest, it's the most useless part of the system. However, if she's wanting to play with her friends, she may get some fun out of it. Even if she can't read or write well yet, pictochat allows you to draw and doodle pictures and send those as 'messages' to the chat room at large (or, if she prefers, there's an on-screen keyboard that will allow her to hunt-and-peck for letters to type in with her stylus and make messages that way).

There's Lego Rock Band too; it's aimed at a younger audience than the other Rock Band games and wouldn't be difficult for her to play on Easy (or even the new Super Easy mode), and it's really fun. Nintendo Life just posted a review too: http://ds.nintendolife.com/reviews/2009/11/lego_rock_band_ds
Judge games by what they have and not what they could have had Wii Number: 3670 7978 6538 8640 PSN ID ~ chadthegamer Currently Awaiting: Skyward Sword, Dead Space 2, 3DS, Kirby, Vanquish, AC2 Brotherhood, DK
My 6yr old niece loves playing Animal Crossing, on either DS or Wii. She seems to play a game called Dolphin Island quite a bit, I'm not sure if it's any good, but quality doesn't matter quite as much when they are that age. Erm... Tinkerbell she likes, and of course Dora and Diego. There is lots out there.
i forgot to mention that there's also the ever-present TV-show tie-in games around, like Hannah Montana, Spongebob Squarepants, High School Musical, and all that jazz. I know my little niece is all up into Hannah Montana and HSM at the moment and would love that kind of crap, no matter how cheesy I think it is personally, lol. :3

I'd like to second Kirby. Hardly surprising since he's my avatar here on the site but you know, there's a reason I like him. I'd especially like to recommend Kirby Super Star Ultra since it's basically seven games in one, aswell as a few mini games, each with a slightly different style and each with a slightly different difficulty. Besides, Kirby himself is adorable... And girls love adorable things...
wow thank you all so much. Im so glad I found this site. Now I just need a site that reviews kid titles lol, I'd do it but im busy with paintball reviewing lol
@hoodtrix: there's always Metacritic; that place gathers scores from websites across the net as well as magazines IRL and collects them for easy access. There's also links provided to reviews online to go with the scores if available. Just type the name of the game you're interested in up into the search box and it'll pull up what it's got for you. :3

i would not recommend kirby super star for a 6/7 year old. my female 6 year old cousin does not like it so much because the button combinations are too hard to remember them. I would recommend Kirby Mouse attack though, it's a little more simplistic yet fun^^ my cousin loves that game =D

Well, at the age of 7 I was playing SimCity without too much hassle so I guess everyone's different.
My sis is 7yr old and she is playing Cooking Mama series, New Super Mario Bros (mostly mini-games) Also, you can check it the "Smart Boy's or Smart Girl's Game Room."
