Getting mine in a couple of hours once it arrives in the mail. Post your first impressions here, and maybe we can sway others into buying/not buying. Also, did you buy it as the first DS you ever had, or upgrade from an older model?

I could use some swaying. Unless DSiWare is just spectacular, I don't see the need to pay up for the system just for a camera. But you know how everyone has a little angel and a little demon in his conscience? Well, both of mine are Nintendo fanboys and keep telling me to buy this even though I have almost no interest in it. :S

Come on, friends,

I just unboxed it and played around with it for alittle while. This is coming from a person who's never played a gameboy since the old grey brick ahem here we go.

First impression was OMFG is that a manual or an encyclopedia? The stack of paper you get with this baby is not only humongous but also alittle sad, especially when all that's needed is the simple quick start guide. I can see where greenpeace got their idea about Nintendo being the electronics company which produces the biggest waste of all.

Went on to check on the DSi itself. I like the matt finish of the thing, the size and slimness of this little machine is pretty amazing considering what it contains. I must say though, that even if it's pretty small by comparison to my old brick it's not something I can carry around in my pockets, and that had me a little dissapointed, only way to bring this baby outside is in your hands or if you got a handbag(for ladies). I'll definately look into some kind of a waist bag for it or something... Too bad i'm not a baggy pants kind of guy with huge pockets.

Turning the system on was a nice surprise however after the size issue. Crisp big displays with a quality that would even make my cell-phone cry. The first few minutes I setup name, date, time, favorite color etc. Aside from the great screens the sound it output was pretty good as well by any standards.

After that I went through a 20 minutes of setting it up with parental controls and all that, then it asked me to take my picture. And i'm pretty impressed, this coupled with the photo diary that comes with makes this a pretty neat feature. I checked out the DSiware shop, and surprise! there's hardly anything on there, at least not something that I found myself attracted to. The 1000 free points is nice and all, but i'll keep them until something comes along that catches my eye.

Going online with the system was as easy as 1-2-3, i was up and running with my wi-fi connection in a couple minutes. I noticed that the battery was running low after toying around alittle, so it's now turned off and charging, so actually playing on the system will have to wait for a couple hours.

I'll get back with more impressions on actually playing on the DS after it's done, having the system coupled with Chrono Trigger and FFA2 i'm sure i'll have nothing but good things to say about it.

Overall i'm pretty impressed so far!

It's not good for the battery to run the system before the first charge, this goes for all LiIon devices. You always have to charge them fully once before using them.

Haven't bought anything on DSiWare yet either, I'll wait for someone else to perform those experiments. I already had the original Wario Ware so unless Pyoro and Paperplane add anything they're not on my list.

I bought it to replace my old grey DS because I wanted more battery life than that thing has, my mother kept hogging it for the Ace Attorney games and I liked the idea of DSiWare. I was considering a DSLite before but with only a 20€ price difference the DSi was simply a better choice IMO. Yeah, no backwards compatibility, so what. I need to keep my GBASP around for the GB and GBC games anyway, adding the GBA itself to the list doesn't matter much.

Ya I kind of made a mistake there. But the quick start guide mentioned nothing about pre-charging. I only used it for 20-30 minutes, it shouldn't have crippled it I hope ;_; Or did I screw up majorly?

First impressions are good, I really like the matte finishing. I also noticed that they dropped the DS logo from the front of the system, never saw that in any of the pics online. Only played with it for 10mins as I had to go to work, and it needed a charge. The new menu system is really nice, and they have left loads of space for your apps, it's a lot like the Wii. I wont know for a few days how well things like the browser and DS shop work, as it will take a bit of testing.

No idea. I had a mouse that I didn't properly charge the first time and it had horrible battery life but I'm not sure if that's connected or if the mouse just sucked.

just picked mine up from GameStop, and holy crap, you weren't kidding. when they handed me the box, i thought it felt kinda heavy... most of that weight turned out to be the manual. It's very nicely packaged, though. I like that you can lay the box flat and open it up instead of having to slide everything out the end of the box like the lite. anyway, it's charging at the moment, so no other real impressions yet. :3

if you've got a Club Nintendo account, you can register it there (90 extra days added to your warranty), and if you link your DSi account with your Club Nintendo account they'll give you 160 coins. that'll kick me up to platinum status for the year, w00t.

I like the rougher feel the outer casing has now. Much easier to hang onto than the smooth and shiny DS Lite. The screens are really sharp, but I haven't had much time to mess with it yet. I just finished downloading Master of Illusion and Brain Age that I have to review. Which reminds me, I'd better get to it.

Oh BTW, I LOVE the blue color. Very sharp.

posting this via dsi, lol. the handwriting recognition is a pain at the moment, it keeps picking my 't's up as '+'s. :3 the internet is a little slow, but it would get the job done in a pinch.

as for other new features, the microphone (and audio playback) are surprisingly good.

also, for some reason, when connecting to the internet via usb Wi-Fi Connector, it showed our usernames at first (in the window that opens on the computer), and then when everything was all settled in it switched over to some random Korean gibberish. i dunno what's up with that, but it never happened before with our lites, lol.

I picked my DSi up at a Gamestop midnight launch, went straight home, and plugged it in before turning it on at all. It's done charging now, and I've been messing with it. I really like the cameras (they work much better than people seemed to expect), and the music playback is cool, too. Only problem is the time it's taking me to convert some files so it can read them...

Haven't been online with it yet because I need my dad to add it into our network security. I want to finish linking it with my Club Nintendo account and double my current coins!

My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

Well I picked mine up at midnight and I love it! Been playing around with it for the past 1 and half and it's great. I love the music player it comes in loud and sounds really good, love the web browser, and the camera is pretty cool. But I can't seem to display images from the SD card, and I know Japan has an app for that already so I am going to have to wait for it. I really like the matte finishing. I like the layout of the DS shop, much better than the Wii one in my opinion, also like that you can link it up to Club Nintendo (same as with the Wii). Going to be playing with it more tomorrow, now it's time to sleep.

Posted this using the DSi browser.

When does the offer for the double coins end/expire?

Looking good for me! Might have to buy myself one.
I could trade-in my DS Lite and get $70 off at least.

It only gives you 160 coins for registering your DSi, so stuffgamer1 must only have about that much in their Club Nintendo account, lol. In the FAQ under Product Registration (can i register and take surveys on all products --> systems), it says you get coins for registering and then linking your DSi Shop account to your CN account, and farther down (why should I register my nintendo products) it states you get 160 coins for registering, like it's a further incentive to do so (it doesn't say anything about an end date or a time limit). The paper documentation provided with the DSi is ambiguously worded, though, and says nothing about earning coins specifically for registering/linking your DSi shop account, so there's some wiggle room for Nintendo if they decide to change their mind down the line.

As a side-note, DSiware (like Wiiware) is only eligible for post-play surveys. Also, if you choose not to link your accounts or fill out the initial survey, you'll still get the 90-day warranty extension regardless.

I'm liking mine so far. The camera is great fun with friends. We had a blast last night morphing each others faces.
I'm really impressed with the speakers too. They sound quite a bit better. Now all I want is some GB games to download. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long for Super Mario Land...

Thanks, I wanted to wait till after the end of the "Nintendo year" (I think thats what they call it) so I can use the extra coins towards earning platinum status again.

Oh yeah, bring it on!

I'm generally impressed with mine, however I'm still thinking that it is a little to pricey for what amounts to an upgraded DS. The camera is fun, I've been taking pictures until the batteries ran out! I like the online features, downloading games and web browser (although find that fairly pointless, because its far easier to use a PC for that kind of thing). Now I just need to buy myself an SD memory card. Does anyone know the maximum GB the DSi will take?

After converting 450 mp3 songs to mp4. I discovered the DSi can only read 237 of those songs.

Nooo! That is really unfortunate. Lets hope that they fix that problem in the next DSi system update.
