The very popular, DS Lite has now retired after 6 years in North America. At least it would seem so, when going on Nintendo's DS page, as they stopped advertising the DS Lite.
The DS Lite has sold over 90 Million consoles of the 150 Million of the overall DS Console sales.

Yeah, not sure if it's worldwide but here at least there appears to be no more DS Lite (shame because it's the best DS system) and no more DSi XL (hooray, that thing is super ugly).

So I did some further research.North America and Austrailia does not have the DS Lite being advertised anymore.
And as BenAV said, the DSI XL is retired in Austrailia.

I remember my first ds, it was a guitar hero ds , had a good time with it.

Doesn't surprise me with the recent launch of the 3DS XL and the fact that the 3DS can play DS games. The only thing good that the DSlite has was its backwards compatible with the GBA but since big retail stores like Target and Best Buy and game stores like Game Stop don't sell GBA games anymore, there probably isn't a big demand for the GBA slot.

The only thing that really surprises me is that it wasn't retired earlier; the only real advantage it has over the DSi and 3DS is that it can play GBA games (which is, admittedly, a pretty damn good advantage), but it's been a long time since the GBA was last relevant.

@mieu-fire Good to see someone agrees.
As well as backwards compatibility with GBA, the DS Lite just had a better feel to it than the DSi.
It felt more sturdy and I found it to be a better size and more comfortable to hold.

The GBA slot was the reason I went from DS to the 3DS skipping the DSi.

I skipped the Lite and went to DSi, which was an exceptional system but the "i" features were a waste for me.

Maybe I will pick up a Lite model used sometime.

I definitely see this as the best in the DS family. GBA support > DSiWare and the other mostly useless features.
I'm not really sad to see it go though, 6 years is a long run, and it's not like there's a shortage of systems out there, what with 90 million of the things out there.

Best thread ever

I still play my mother 1 + 2 game on it. I like it a lot, even with the 3DS.

I actually thought it had been discontinued for awhile... I don't recall seeing them in any stores recently. Anyway, it was a solid system. I played my Lite for awhile, as I never upgraded to a DSi, and it kept going strong the whole time. I finally retired it when I got a 3DS, and I keep the DS Lite around for GBA games.
