Topic: DS lite or DSi?

I can happily say that before the DSi came along the DS Lite was losing to it's competition because the PSP was starting to really get it down with downloadable content and it's online service was getting far superior, the DSi officially SAVED the DS series for me and many other DS owners.

Yes, I think the key thing to remember is that I'm not asking "should I buy a £110 DSLite or a £150 DSi?", but "should I buy a £100 DSLite or a £110 DSi?"

Don't listen to irken, as he is naming some of the most generic and non-worthy things to bring up when buying a DSi.

The thing that hyped me up the most for the DSi was flipnote studio and the DSi Shop.

Those are two of the biggest things the DSi has to offer. I think the smallest and most unneeded and annoying feature is the recording feature... It's just stupid and pointless...

But irken is right about the DSi being a pretty good MP3 player.

Kelvin I am sorry but I have no idea why you would even have to think about that one...

Um, nintendoftw, you need to see this. :3

@Nintendoftw: It's great that you love the DSi, but do not insult other users. Yes, I do in fact own a DSi, and I've reviewed quite a few DSiWare titles for it here on the site. You have stated your opinion in this thread, now let others add their own. Any further posts from you in this thread will be deleted.

I like the cameras on the DSi. They add a lot of entertainment value when you're out and about. See something that you might want in the future? Snap a picture! Also, don't worry too much about the DSi Browser. Even though good points were made about it being slow, it's FREE. Also, the DS Lite can't play Flipnote Studio, another free title. While it is lacking a GBA slot, the additional features of the DSi make up for it. Or, you could wait for a 3DS, which has the powers of the DSi, and then some.

I'm back (for the moment)!

This has all been very useful. I was all set to get the cheaper option, but a bit of hands-on advice from you fine people and I've got a much better idea of the DSi's capabilities, and it seems as if I will get more use from its extra features than I thought.

what tbd said is true, the browser is useless if you have a computer, which you all obviously have.
And you can use secure internet settings with the DSi, but the DS games are NOT able to use these settings, thats not an issue with the dsi, it is an issue with the games, you will be able to use these settings with the shop, the DSiWare you download, and other DSi stuff, just not DS games, but thats the same thing with other DSs.

and i dont think she said anything negative about the dsi, either.

I had a DS Lite before getting a DSi. Never regretted it. DSi is totally worth it.

This, absolutely. The DSi is a quantum leap above the DS Lite... if you appreciate the new features. Some feel the camera is gimmicky, but I found it fun because I bring my DS to play with friends when we meet, and the camera ended up being a big event. It's not just a camera, it's a full-fledged camera app with cool stuff you can do with your photos.

I'm loving DSiWare for what it's worth, too. The browser isn't as useless as people are saying, I use it on the go sometimes. It's great for light browsing like checking email, reading news, etc. Don't expect to watch Youtube videos or anything and you're all set.

Absolutely worth the extra £10 for sure.

Good decision. Why settle for something outdated rather than someone upgraded? 10$ more? Honestly there shouldn't even be any thought to it, have fun with your DSi

Ya, for 10 bucks more, the DSi is definitely worth it. All the extra little features (seeing how much battery power you actually have, changing brightness whenever, slightly bigger screens) are really helpful. Plus I'm sure if you gave it a chance, you'd find a bunch of DSiWare games as well. Anything from Q-games is a sure bet.

Plus it's got clicky buttons C:

Check out my classy comics.

@WaveBoy: to be quite honest, the larger screens haven't been an issue for me at all -- they're bigger at first, sure, but then you get used to them, and when you try to go back to a Lite it's like 'whoa, was it really that small before?'. lol... during extended play, it's hard enough for me to see the screen sometimes anyway; the only reason I don't have an XL at this point is the DSiWare transfer issue. I'd love to have even bigger screens :3 plus, i got a nice case for my DSi, so the matte finish doesn't bother me anymore. :3

that said, i definitely still wish I had my lite to play GBA games. the micro is a great little handheld, but it's pretty darn micro in comparison to the DS series, hahaha.

a DSlite is better IMO. the GBA slot is necessary if you no longer have you gameboy advance. the extra features on the DSi dont offset the price, again IMO. so I would recommend the lite

Okey-doke, I made an account for the express purpose of helping you...that and I've been lurking around here for months....

DSi. All the way. It's just a higher-quality product overall. The touch screen is better (at least it is to me, I've had mine a year and only one scratch C:). The buttons are indeed clickier, and although the L/R buttons still have issues blowing on them usually gets them working for me. The screens are larger and clearer, (oh, and @Waveboy, the top screen of the 3Ds is going to be a bit larger than the DSi's and the touch screen is staying about the same size :3) I know you said you wouldn't be using the DSiware much, but there are some absolutely high-quality, high-fun games on there, and I would highly recommend at least checking it out. The cameras are fun with friends and are useful for snapping a pic on the fly (higher resolution than most camera phones too). The wifi connectivity is a bummer, as abgar said, most DS games aren't compatible with higher security internet connections so no worldwide Mario Kart for me :C. It was easily worth the extra $40 for me, and for just $10 more I would buy it in a heartbeat. I could go like this for a while, but I'd better cut this post short.

In closing, get a DSi, it is better than a DS Lite. Thank ya very much.

Does that really matter nowadays? Sure you can buy used GBA games but it's not like they make them anymore.

Blink

Yeah, the incompatibility really stinks, but I stick by my previous post. Also, the fact my little sister still has a Lite means I can still play my vast library of GBA games anytime I want Get a DSi, trust me.

Clearly being able to play GBA games on a nice, big, bright screen is important to some. It's a valid concern, and not all of us have little sisters we can borrow Lites from, lol.

Still, I find that the DSi's features heavily outweigh those found in the Lite.

And I don't have a little sister!

theblackdragon

@irks: perhaps because you don't care about playing GBA games on it... again, some of us do.
also, i was referring to whoever said they just borrow their little sister's Lite when they want to play GBA games, lol; not all of us have that option available :3
