Long-story-short, the DSi isn't "better enough" for me to buy another handheld. DSiWare could be nice, in theory, but it's irksome that we existing DS/Lite owners are excluded from that. It would be like Microsoft releasing a new XBox with minimal hardware upgrades (lol, camera?), and only this new system could access XBL2 for downloadable content.

irksome as it is, with that theory, we wouldn't have the PSPgo, the Xbox Ultimate or Arcarde nor would we see 74 different variations of the PS3 from the HDD sku's to the new GPU in the RE5 pack. Some times you have to move onto a different version of the platform and understand you cannot hit every single console that was sold prior.

I think I'm simply bound to be annoyed by the updated hardware releases then. I'm mostly a PC gamer, so I'm used to choosing what hardware I want, when I want. (as opposed to "you must buy this", then having that package upgraded right after you buy) Wii & DS Lite are the only consoles I currently own. (after completely skipping last gen)

@OldSchool: That bug almost made me slap my screen. Please don't put that in your posts anymore

I'm telling you, you're gonna slap yourself on the forehead after year by year passes on and there are no DSi games that can't be done on the DS.

They have the same power for games. After time others will see the light. lol

Edit: Sorry for the lack of a detailed, caring response I'm known for. I'm in a hurry and decided to check the site before I left. I'll throw up another post when I come back in about a week.

The DSi has 133 Mhz CPU that's double as much as the previous ones.
And it has 16 MB RAM four times as much as the previous ones...

I don't really know if this really has to do with games but it has better hardware so maybe....

Actuall the 67 ARM Chip was upgraded to 133 Mhz, it still has the ARM 7 at 33.

As with everything in live, beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder. One man's trash and all. I do not play GBA anymore so the DSi is a better fit. Now if they offered a VC, yes, I would download, but I enjoy the larger screens and menu more than the DSlite. If you like GBA, then the lite is a better choice. IMO

The main chip on the DSi contains - a 66mhz arm 7 66mhz bus 133mhz arm 9 and 3d engine 2x 2d gpus sound hardware sram catch ram. So how you can claim the arm 7 is still running at 33mhz is beyond me.
Effectively when the DSi is in "DSi mode" it is running a double the DS clock speed with 4 x the RAM to support it. However tye DSi is able to run in DS mode which limits the extra hardware so it can run DS software correctly and smootly.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to ask this in, but did any of you guy's in the UK get Star Points with your DSi? I don't seem to have any with mine...

Club Nintendo points. I bought my DSi new and sealed but I don't seem to have gotten any.

I dug my DSi box out to check. It didn't come with the usual scratch card with Club Nintendo points. Instead there was a 3-fold red and white card with a Pin # written on it in a large font.

I'm gonna have to say that DSi is better than Lite. Simply because the quality of the games have been enhanced and there's extra hardware. Oh, and the fact that you can't play GBA games has nothing to do with it as you'll soon be able to download them via DSiWare anyway.

Currently playing:
Wii + GC - House of the dead: overkill, Guitar hero world tour, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Eternal darkness: sanitys requiem
DS - Final fantasy 4, Rhythm paradise, Pokemon platinum, GTA:CTW.
VC + WiiWare - Icarian, Lostwinds, Zelda: Maj..

I cant see GBA games being downloadable in the NEAR future, that being said I would imagine that some developers would be making a bit of easy cash by releasing DSi enhanced GBA games before GBA gets released on DSi VC.
Game & Watch games being released is a nice start and I could see them releasing some GB / GBC games by the end of the year (Tetris possibly) but I really dont see GBA being released while so many people still own systems that can still play GBA games (SP's and DS phat / lite).

The quality of the games have been enhanced? But there aren't any card based DSi specific games yet, so how can that be true?

C'mon, think about it... DS Lite is great but you can really only play DS and GBA games......now, the DSi can play DS games, use the super special awesome camera, the sound recorder, play your tunes, and buy games on the DSiWare shop. DSi all the way!!!

As for the technical questions that have entered some limited debate here, there is a little bit of news, and surely more to follow very soon: Team Twiizers (the group responsible for most of the original Wii hacking) has announced that they have successfully run their first DSi-mode exploit. They took one of the few retail games that is "DSi-enhanced", hacked the save game on the cart to inject their own code, and then used that in order to verify and dump the contents of the full 16mb of RAM.

They needed a DSi-enhanced cart in order to access the full hardware, and one of the key hackers behind the matter put it this way a while back:

The DSi has two modes — a “native mode” and a “compatibility mode”. In the compatibility mode, the clock is slown down to half the speed and access to the new peripherals is disabled — sound familiar? In the native mode, you get a faster clock and more RAM — used to perform the real-time face recognition and image processing shown above — as well as an SD slot and two cameras (front and back-facing).

So, they waited for the first DSi-enhanced games to hit retail, since they need those to unlock the full "native" mode that ordinary carts (even DS flashcarts) can't access, and then they used one of these games to verify a dump of the full 16mb of RAM.

Surely more progress will follow quite soon--I can't wait to see what they uncover in their future hacking.

But it's like..a multimedia device now. I'm thinking in terms of games

If I might kill two birds with one stone, the DSi-enhanced Korg DS-10 Plus retail game which has been recently announced proves that DSi enhanced or exclusive carts can not only use the improved technical abilities of the DSi to work with the cameras, but also in order to expand the game's core capabilities.

Right now, it is up to personal preference, but when the DSiVC is launched, it will be hard for me to believe that the DS Lite would still be considered superior.

DSiVC won't happen but it's a likly feature of the DS successor which is Nintendo is in the middle of devoloping & it satarted well before Nintendo started devoloping the DSi.
