I'm looking to get into the Dragon Quest games for the DS, but I don't know where to start. Should I go with IV or V? Or should hold out and wait for IV? IX on the other hand looks extremely good and I'll probably end up getting that when it comes out.

Which one do you think is the best one available?

IV is great definitely worth buying, however V is exceptionally good, and a much better choice.

Monsters: Joker is quite good too, it shares more similarities with Pokemon though.
Rocket Slime is also really good, but it's not an RPG at all.

They're all worth owning, but V is the best, with IV being the next best thing.

You could play them in any order you want. V is the best....and hardest to find I believe.

Get them all when you can really. Best advice I can give anyway.

Yeah, there's no need to play them in order. IV, V, and VI make up the "Zenithia Trilogy", but its more of a very loose trilogy (some of the background mytholgy and geography is shared, etc), the same way the first three games make up the loose "Erdrick/Alefgard" trilogy.

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.

Ok cool. I've actually been curious where I should start as well. I've been tempted to start with IV since I've started several RPG series with the fourth installment (Final Fantasy IV, Phantasy Star IV, Pokemon Pearl (4th Generation Pokemon), etc.), but DQV just looks more awesomer. If thats even a word.

Sweet, hopefully it's structured more like the original Monsters, than Joker was.

The set islands were nice enough but that just made it so that there wasn't that much territory to be covered. Having tons of randomly-generated places to explore was much better.

Going back to the ye olde times setting would be much better too.

FYI, IX still hasn't officially been announced for US audiences, but VI has. This, like V, will be the first time our country has gotten to play it outside of fan-translated ROMs.

Well yes, because it's Dragon Quest. =)

But yeah, i am anxiously awaiting the official announcement of a US release of IX. It's just a matter of time.

Sentinel's of the Starry Sky or something like that has been supposedly trademarked for a US release for 9. I'm getting tired of waiting. I just read news that the game is now a budget title in Japan and has sold over 4 million copies. I'm hoping it comes before 6

I'd recommend Dragon Quest IV the most. I mean, it's the only game in the series I find tolerable, so it must be doing something right.

Does anyone know when VI is coming out?
