Topic: Dragon Quest IX or Bowser's Inside Story??

Well after counting down the hours to Other M, i ultimately decided to hold off on buying the game after reading some reviews. So now I had to fill the vacuum in my gaming brain by buying a different game. So I had narrowed down my selection to 2 DS RPG games! Dragon Quest IX and Bowser's Inside Story
After a while i decided to get DG9 and i havent decided if that was the right desicion yet..
.
So my question to y'all is: Which is better? Dragon Quest IX or Bowser's Inside Story

Oh god, both games are sooo great, I can't really choose between one of them

You can't really compare them. Personally, i'm always hesitant to call the Mario & Luigi games "RPGs", though i guess they are a part of that genre. DQ IX would be the better choice IMO, but it depends on what you like in a game.

And buy Other M. Go. Now.

You can't go wrong with either. DQIX is the meatier, more traditional RPG, but BIS is still pretty awesome.

Exactly.

Never played a Dragon Quest game, but while I was still into BIS it WAS my favorite DS game. (MMZC is now my fav)

That depends. Do you want a long adventure with a great use of wireless gameplay and tons to do, or do you want a 20-hour trek filled with hilarious jokes and imaginative gameplay? Both games are great, but I'll let you decide. Also, Metroid: Other M is out now, so you could get that (unless, of course, you are expecting it as a gift).

I'm back (for the moment)!

Why shouldn't they be called RPGS, because there no swords and dragons? Serious I'm not trying to hate I want your opinion on why you are hesitant to call it an RPG.

I think Bower's Inside Story is more fun in general, Dragon Quest is just good but you might not like grinding.

Anyone you choose is a good option, I find DQ IX to be extremly fun and addictive, and M & L: BIS to be very funny and with som challenging puzzles (not too much of course)

@Kaiser
Nothing to do with the lack of a fantasy-setting. I'm just more old-school. I enjoy the M&L games, but for me "RPG" means a much deeper sort of game than what they offer.

Heh, yeah i know. Kind of hard to put into words what i'm getting at; it's more of a "feel" to me. It's mainly likely due to the fact that i grew up with JRPGs and PC RPGs that were styled after D&D (like Bard's Tale, etc.)

Definitions may vary on JRPG vs Western RPG; but JRPGs usually are the more "traditional" sort -- level grinding, turn-based battles, that sort of thing. DQ and classic FF games are the prime examples. Often times the distinction is linked to the battle-system style (turn-based vs active-time combat).

Never played DQ, but M&L is my favorite DS game that I own, so it's highly recommended from me.

DQIX will sit firmly in the back of your DS for far, far longer (remember at E3, Reggie talked about one of the office staff having racked up 150 hours and felt they'd only scratched the surface? He wasn't joking. The 50-hour main story is practically a tutorial), but BiS is all-out hilarious. If I had to chose, I'd go with DQIX. But I'd get BiS as soon as possible too.

Which one is which? I've been seeing adverts for Dragon Quest, and was curious about it myself.

I would say DQIX. As others have said, it's "meatier" and will last you a much longer time. After I beat M&L:BIS, I ended up getting rid of it, with DQIX, after you are "done", you can still find many quests and even download a quest every week on wi-fi (I think they are doing it for the first year).

@suburban_sensei - Ditto everything you said. However, if they're releasing two new quests a week and continue to do so, they'll be done by February, I think.

Exactly.

I've never played DQ9, like many others here, but BIS is easily in my top 3 DS games. Buy it, seriously. Once you're in to it, you won't stop playing for a long time. Going into a battle every time you whack an enemy, though, gets quite annoying when the enemy becomes easily beatable.

First of all in my opinion I don't really agree with the review of Metroid Other M, as I am very much loving that game. That being said, if I had to choose between DragonQuest 9 or Bower's Inside Story, hands down I would choose DQ 9, it a bigger game and I think it's more serious and more traditional RPG. I have both games, and I like them both but I would go with DQ 9 and you get more bang for you buck if you pit it again Bowser's Inside Story.

Dragon quest 9 is one of the punniest games I've ever played. I didn't like BIS that much, but the battles were more involving maybe than DQ, and had some unique ideas in it.

Man, it's like trying to decide whether you'll go for the best hooker of the world or your wife. (the hooker being BiS and the wife being DQ9) I mean would you like a quick and really fun time (that has the cat-blocks thingys, most adorable thing on the Nintendo planet) or would you like to have a long relationship that is quite fun, yet still manages to reinvent herself to be still attractive.
Oh and Metroid is also another Hooker, the 2nd best one.
(see the pun I did about hooking you ?)
