Eh oh well a few bucks, I remember it was supposed to be $40. I guess the lame-os at square just feel Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger are worth the $10 nerd tax. :

I just picked up a copy yesterday, completely on a whim. I nearly never play JRPGs, so my expectations weren't high. However, it is AMAZING! Fantastic everything, except perhaps story. But the graphics look great, character design is cool, atmosphere is wonderfully cheery (which is a fantastic relief from modern gaming's mud-like hue), and the skill system is awesomely flexible.
I've yet to try multiplayer, but if my friend gets it as he said he would, I can report back on that, too.
I got this day one also. I love most rpgs and have not played a dragon quest since the last one on nes. I cant wait till i fight my first slime or gold golum. I have fond memories of the old games and am happy the formula has not changed to much. I have not had the time to play this yet but will get into it soon enough!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
I got it yesterday on an impulse buy, and I couldn't be happier. It's thoroughly addicting, has a beautiful presentation, and a unique story to boot. Color me impressed.

Just a quick question about something I've been receiving mixed messages about: In order to Canvass for Guests, do you need to talk to Erinn in Stornway and specifically select that option, or can you just put your DS in sleep mode? I'm asking this because I'm going on a vacation tomorrow that involves airports, college campus visits and Disneyland, and that would be a huge help to know.
A unique story, Kid A? As far as I know, Dragon Quest isn't generally known for that (though I've heard 5 is an exception of sorts, at least in structure). Out of curiosity, what's unique about it? I won't be playing the game until 3DS, if ever, but I've got my eye on it, certainly.
This is old school level building. So if you dont like grinding for levels this might not be for you. Been having fun but still have barely scratched the surface of this game!

@Birdman I believe you have to go to the Inn. Before you canvas, it'll have you save your game first (i guess in case people put it in sleep mode and forget until the battery runs out).
BTW, i've been a DQ fan since the beginning, and i am SOOOOOOO loving this game. Still barely scratched the surface though (Hero is at about Lv16 now)!
SO this game looks pretty cool. But I'm not too big on RPG's. I've only played Earthbound, Mother 3, TWEWY, and the first two Mario&Luigi games. I loved all those, but does anyone know if I'd enjoy this one as well?

If i were you (since your not a huge fan of rpgs) see if you can rent this first. This is old school rpg level building turn based fighting. This is one of the games that started the rpg crazy and has not changed to much from the original formula. It is different then the games you posted but i like those games also. It is a very good game that needs a lot of time to enjoy.
