Haven't played them in years, last time I played my copy of red I restarted and got a mew for my party that I never got to have as a kid.
Bought a gameboy player not too long ago too for my snes so I could also play it on my tv cause I never got to play it on the nes as a kid either.

BACK MY PROJECT EVEN $1 HELPS!
I need to restart my Blue so I can catch myself a Mew. I have a GBA SP so I can play it forever Actually I need to go see if I can somehow find my old Game Boy Pocket and Link Cable.
After watching the Game Grumps play a bit of Pokemon Emerald, I felt compelled to play my copy of Ruby. The only problem is the battery has died, meaning the time events are disabled.
What would that entail? Is there no day/night cycle? Can I no longer get berries?
I have Blue, Silver and Pearl as well. Blue is still in working condition, but Silver's battery has died, and so the save doesn't persist. A shame - it's probably the one game I'd really like to be able to try again...
I might try Pearl, but I've been meaning to get Soul Gold/Silver and B/W 1 & 2 as well.
A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

I thought you couldn't save anymore when that battery died. Might have been wrong.

@Maelstrom that I know of it's only true for Ruby Saphire and Emerald, maybe Fire red and Leaf green too.
some of my GBA games had the batteries dead and stopped saving.
