I just want to add that Item World is awesome. I just unlocked it the other day. I assume it's in the DS version, too. I'm probably not going to play the story for awhile and just do Item World over and over. I love randomly generated levels, and I wish more games used them to add to replay value.
I haven't played those particular games, but I've played Disgaea 3 and FFTA1. I much prefer Disgaea. FFTA was a let down after the original FFT, but granted I barely played it. I just didn't like the theme. Disgaea's story is extremely amusing, and you'll be playing it long after the story is finished, too.
If you've already played the FF Tactics games, go with Disgaea because it is very, very different.
Of course, those aren't the games you asked about, but they're from the same series, and you seem to be impatient for a response. Hope that helps.
EDIT: Just saw on the previous page that you've played one of the FFTA games already, so I changed my response a bit.
I would guess it would keep you occupied a good bit longer than that, since someone else here said they'd already put over 200 hours into it. A friend of mine said he's put in a ton, too, and despite playing for about 15 hours already, I'm not that far into the story. Again, I'm talking about Disgaea 3, but I can only imagine the DS one is just as good. Nintendo Life's review backs that up, too.
Good luck. I guess the DS game library is too large for most stores to have every game in stock at once. I went looking for Metroid Prime Hunters, a 1st party game, and couldn't even find that, much less Disgaea. I'm glad I didn't though because I ended up getting another game on a whim and it turned out to be pretty neat (The Dark Spire).
ikr . well thanks for listening to me as i flipped out waiting for this game lol. ill post stuff on this if theres anything new or amazing i find out in it lol
