Fun fact, I always checked the DS section for games since like early 2009 to find this game in any store that sold DS games. Only last month did I finally find it and buy it. I have now owned at one point or another all 6 of the Nintendo handheld Metroidvania games (including all handheld Metroids as soon as I bother to download Metroid 2). Interesting timing since I finally played the first 4 Castlevania games and this one is supposed to have that level of difficulty. So clearly now I am prepared for this game! Or something.
I'm genuinely not sure when I'll get to it though. Barring Steamworld Dig I might say **** it to any downloadable game I get just for the sake of playing it before...I dunno this DS forum disappears.

Apparently You are me from the past who came to the future, because this sounds like something I meant to write about 6 months ago. Like, word for word...
For what it's worth, Order of Ecclesia is my favorite Metroidvania game. Shame they never revisited the glyph system. More shame that Konami later reduced Castlevania to boring God of War rip-offs.

I personally find the Glyph system not as fun as the old school equipment system in SOTN or Aria/Dawn of Sorrow.

Order of Ecclesia is probably my favorite post-Rondo of Blood Castlevania game. SOTN was a fun game, but the metroidvania games never felt like true Castlevanias. Particularly when most of them started opting for VERY anime-esque character designs. Moreover, the games became too easy. Remember when Castlevania games were dark, gothic, and brutally difficult? Order of Ecclesia remembers. Granted, it can't hold a candle to some of the older ones in terms of soul-crushing difficulty, but it still provided a decently stiff challenge.
Also, the Glyphs were the coolest thing ever. And Shanoa is possibly the most awesome female main character in a video game that doesn't have the word "Metroid" in its title.
tbh, so far...while it's a very solid game, I don't actually like the mix of old and new(er) Castlevania? Like it's no longer connected like Metroidvania and it's still not as well designed as 1, 3 or 4 for level design so I don't see the point? It's basically Megaman ZX now, which is also a solid game that did Metroidvania in a way that is confused on why it works.
But it's still nice to play an actual Castlevania game again instead of a mediocre sell-out, pandering, pathetic, meaningless God of War ripoff.
To be honest, this is my exact same thoughts for Portrait of Ruin essentially.
I finished this recently - Pretty tough compared to the other DS Castlevania games, at least to begin with. Once you learn a few Glyphs, it makes the last few boss fights an absolute cakewalk, just through Glyph Unions....

To be honest, I never felt any of them did the whole connected world with exploration as well as SotN, so I kinda liked that PoR and OoE went more for good, challenging platforming. I guess it's not as solid as the full thing, but I felt both games had a nice balance over all. Then again, I thought Mega Man ZX was exactly what Mega Man Zero 1 wanted to be, so...
