I didn't find it to be that hard, personally. I think I completed that the first time I tried it. What I found a thousand times more frustrating where when I would hit "choke points" where I would forget where I was going and would spend hours randomly searching for the next place to go. That was painful.
Ya, the minigames for the most part are really lame in this game. Took me a few times as well. I guess they're there to change up the pace a bit since (for me) it gets boring after a while.
I should replay my copy of BIS sometime, since I don't recall what the challenge you're talking about entails...
"Don't make enemies, they'll stab your heart; don't make friends, they'll stab your back. Including me, including you, all men are trash. Don't love; don't be loved. Have nothing to do with other; live in isolation."
I have been playing BIS on and off, still haven't finished it, but man oh man do I remember that Carrot minigame. I wouldn't say challenges like that one "break" the game, but they certainly bogged me down a bit.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
You're not alone. It only took me a few tries but it was still pretty frustrating. What caused me to stop playing the game though (because I wasn't grinding enough) was the boss fight immediately after. Surprise!
Well, Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story is easily the best DS game till the moment, its a perfect adventure game with RPG combined to the perfection, it has exiting battles and some not too but a little bit challenging puzzles. The best of all is that it give you the oportunity to fight with Bowser, these time is not Marios vs Bowser, is both versus a common enemy! It is a not too hard game, but has challenges (like these one) that add that needed difficulty. It is one of the games I most play and enjoy! And is totally recommnded for everyone!
Strange how some found it not hard as I have excellent motor skills (through years of Steel Pan playing) and even my fast responses didn't help sometimes as it doesn't register occassionally. >_<
Oh the back stimulating part was so unnecessary....why wait for a minute for it to play itself? If I wanted a break I'd turn off the DS!
The first time I played it, I found it a bit difficult. The second time, I paid careful attention to the "super chunk" of carrot that makes a noise. I immediately tapped the first chunk I saw when the noise was made when it fell. Other than that, I think the real challenging part of the game was the giant Bowser stage with the Mole Bros. in the train (the Mic didn't work so well in that battle for some reason).
