This game is a nice distraction. You can set it to Auto Restock, which is nice. It has tendency to overstock books in my case, but other than setting up writers to do book signing, and make sure the books are there, it's pretty self-playing. Something to set aside as distraction. I managed to play the game all the way through in one sitting. About 15-20 minutes per game week. 5 millions in 69 days. A little over 11 millions in 99 days. That's on my first and only game. I don't believe there are different levels of difficulties, so repetitive is the verdict. Still a nice distraction for $2, though.

I do have problem with sales receipt. Light blue on white is very difficult to read!

I checked Circle's website and there's a 'Publisher Story' (or something) in the works and it says SIM so I assume it means simulation. I will also assume that it's similar to Bookstore Dream.

It also says they're bringing out Swords and Soldiers on 3dsware as well and I heard that's a very good wiiware game so that's great!

Currently playing: Rhythm Heaven, Minecraft (XBLA), Pokemon B/W 2, Halo 4, The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave, Fallblox, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GCN)

Will be playing soon: Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Cave Story +, Wii U: NSMBU, Nintendo Land, (And lots more!)

When I first saw this title in a small article here at Nintendolife I was pretty excited as it looked alot like a Kairosoft I had played called Dungeon Village. It came out last week on Thursday and was in the 1.99 catagory of games. I downloaded as soon as I saw it. But wasn't expecting much since it was a Bargain Priced game. At first the game was pretty hard since there is no explanation of what does what in the game. But it did not take me long to get my store up and running and get Book signings and buying out publishers and opening up new books to sell. This game is excellent! It starts you off nice and slow to get used to stocking your books everyday and manage book signings. But the play gets real frantic when your store is full, and your selling out of stock Ha Ha! I highly recommend this High Quality Low price game from the Eshop and seriously hope we see more games like it. If dungeon Village would come to the Eshop my life would be over for a couple weeks. One thing about Bookstore Dreams it is a cut down sim game but it plays absolutely great. So if your a hardcore sim player this one might be a little easy for you but still a good purchase

Still playing 3DS but will have Switch soon for multiplayer with friends. I miss you guys! Adam, Joni, Gavin and the rest of the Blue Rogues from the Phantasy Star Zero Days.

Sorry for posting twice. I wanted to give this game some exposure in the Eshop section and started a thread in that section to do so as this game is really flying under the radar and could use some exposure. But my thread was immediately locked and I was told to post here. Im not mad or anything but I do think more people would be more inclined to go look in the Eshop section than the DSiWare section. I know this is DSiWare but wish they would let a thread roll in the Eshop section too to give what I feel would be more exposure to the game which would be a good thing and deserving considering the game really is pretty good at such a great price

@Donjwolf: Nice! I will probably get that right away when it comes out then!

@Windy: That would be great! Especially since I don't have any device that can run those games! I really hope Kairosoft considers it.

Dungeon Village is really a Great experience. It would be an awesome and quality addition to the Eshop. But I don't think Kairosoft is even considering 3ds or DSi developement. They probably make a ton in the apple and Android markets. But like Zenonia they could jack up the price to 8.99. Would it be worth getting at 8.99? I think so it's a quality game

@Windy: It's a DSiWare game, and we've already got a discussion going in the DSiWare section of the forums (right here). Yes, it's in the eShop, but only if you're using a 3DS — otherwise it's still the DSi Shop. I get that you want to promote the game, but we don't need one conversation about the same thing splintered across multiple threads, it's just confusing.

anyway, as per the actual topic at hand — thanks for that tip about the shelves, whoever posted it to the review comments! i had totally forgotten i could buy more shelves, lol, and that'll make it a lot easier to keep things in stock. D:

I think that was me!
Glad I could help.

Anyways, I beat the game just a few hours ago. It lasted me about 6 hours, but I couldn't get 5m before the end of day 99
Well, there's always next time.

@Morphtroid
I don't think you can say that you beat the game if you fail to get 5M. You finished the game, right? But you didn't beat it.

How can you fail to get 5M anyway? 3 times I played, and get 11M, 11.6M and 12.38M. On my third game, I noticed that there is Shelf B, which holds 40 books. I went hogwild and bought them. Never run out of stock, and never miss a shipment! I was pulling 3M per week at the end despite the fact that I only make decision on Saturdays, when the book signing is going on. The rest, I just leave on auto-pilot. I didn't try very hard. Didn't even bother to take notes, do calculation or anything.

@ramstrong: considering you lose the game by being in debt three weekends in a row, i think just making it to the end of your 99 days in the black counts as a win, technically. it may not be 'completion', but in terms of the game itself, you didn't lose... :3

Making it to the end of 99 days counts as COMPLETION. FINISH. DONE. But not a WIN. There are 4 milestones you need to complete in order to win. Getting 5M is the last of them. Just because you didn't lose, doesn't necessarily mean you win. Unless, that is, you want to call achieving the first milestone a "win".

Making it to the 99th day does count as an achievement, but please don't climb an anthill and call it a mountain.

To be honest, I considered the milestones to be as unrequired and optional as every other game "achievement".

I ended up my first play through with 3 millions.
I invested a lot in the best shelves (the ones after "B") and books. I ended paying 100,000 a day for books and 150,000 every week to keep the store (damn landlord)

@ramstrong: there's no need to get snippy, i think we've crossed a wire somewhere...? i tend to go by the Backloggery definition — when you 'beat' or 'win' a game, it counts as a plain :B:, but when you've met every possible goal a game has to offer you, it counts as a 'complete', a gold :C:. You can win or beat a game without completing it; completion is the best possible outcome. just making it to 99 days would not count for 'completion' at all IMO.

Ah, terminology issues. Thanks for explaining. I was thinking in terms of car racing, where you don't win unless you get first place. You do get to finish.

There are shelves other than A or B? I didn't know that! I think my expenses are in the order of 1M per week. Books are expensive! My net is about 1.5M+. Just guessing, since I didn't keep notes at all.

Yeah, the last furniture piece I got was the "large shelf", which looks like the basic shelf but holds 50 books.
It costs about 30,000$, I think.

So, that's why your rent expenses are so high. Those things do have maintenance costs. Well, I'm here to tell you that you can get 11M just by using Shelf A. Just because I didn't know there are alternatives.

Do you get 9999 FAME and 99 SCORE? I noticed that the number of customer is directly proportioned with those scores. I maxed them out by week 8.

Oh yeah, these maxed out quite quickly.

Next time I play I'll try to stock less books (600 a day was a bit excessive I think lol) and buy cheaper shelves

Maybe try to reduce your expenses. Once you max out your fame and score, you probably don't need to continue advertising. The book signings alone will draw the people in and drive up sales. I stocked everything at the beginning to get higher score, since you get positive reviews from having variety and enough stock, but later with most/all items unlocked, you could be more picky, i.e. stock books that sell well (not the popularity rating, which I find doesn't necessarily translate to high sales).

Mine was about 560/600 by day 70, with about 30-50 books unsold daily, but on book signing days all of it sold out. Since I had B bookshelves the rent was higher than it should be in hindsight, but if I had put on book signings as often as possible (instead of maybe once every 2.5 weeks, lol), it should offset the maintenance cost significantly.
