^ title.

I love Professor Layton game OSTs but have never played any of the games. I want to give it a try and saw that there's a couple of titles out so not sure which to go for.

Start with the first game, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, to get yourself acquainted with the series. It's fairly short and much simpler in comparison to the other Layton games, so it might feel antiquated but don't let that discourage you from enjoying its quaintness.

If you enjoyed it, then play the sequels:
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box and
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
which makes up the first trilogy.

I've only played the first trilogy, but I was eased into the series by Curious Village as well. Professor Layton is an excellent series if you're into puzzle-solving and brain teasers. Just be prepared for some interesting explanations on some cases.

I still need to play the prequel series (The Last Specter, Miracle Mask, and Azran Legacy) at some point.

...just don't expect many of the puzzles to bear any relation to the plot.

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.
