According to GN and Engine Software, the tilting is pulled off due to the DSi Camera's placement. This seems pretty good and I'm sure you guys must be wondering if this is the motion sensing we've been waiting for.

Interesting.

I've been thinking about this sort of thing since reading about how that Monster Hunter DSi exclusive game works, where you shoot monsters that actually appear embedded in the camera feed, rather than the camera image acting as just a backdrop.

Pretty damn cool that they can do it. I mean, achieving a lot with just a little is what Nintendo is all about, and that's what keeps the DS at just a few hundred dollars instead of closer to a thousand dollars.

THAT SAID — I hate games where you have to physically tilt the device to manoeuvre the game! :) Might be cool for the odd effect here and there in a game like Chinatown Wars, though.

They already have itouches for accelerometers, what nintendo needs to do is just ramp up the graphics and improve the L and R buttons. I will be as happy as a muddy pig

They already had a tilting device for the Gameboy advance, Yoshi's tilt and tumble [or something like that]. I don't see what's wrong with making something like that for the DSi.
Anyways, If it works well, I would use it.

You're thinking of Kirby Tilt'n Tumble for GBC.
I think this could work well, as long as they don't make you use it for every insignificant task that you could easily do with some buttons. (cough*wiimote*cough)

@Starkiller I'm not talking about the kirby game, I'm talking about this:
Untitled
topsy turvy, tilt and tumble, I was pretty close. actually, I didn't even know there was a kirby tilt and tumble, so now i am less ignorant.

@110% and Cid, umm I mean Starkiller - but both of those games(and the Wii remote) have accelerometers built in, which wouldn't really work with the DS cards. They are talking about using the camera to "see" the tilting.

@zezhyrule I didn't know about the accelometer thing, and I didn't know it couldn't work on a ds cart. I did know that this would use the camera, though.

Tony Hawks Motion could do this with hardware built into the cart

@Funem Tony Hawks Motion came with a slot-2 expansion called the "motion pak" which gave it motion sensing capabilities. Due to the removal of slot-2, this game cannot be played on the DSi. Yet another reason why I think they shouldn't have removed slot-2.

The only one I know of that fitted in the DS cart slot was the DS Motion Card but this required homebrew to run from a cart in slot 2

There was talk of adding a flash cart slot to the card, dont know if that ever happened though.

right before i read this i was playing my ds and sorta shook it cuz i got mad, and i heard this piece rattling, now, in the wii remote there is a gyroscope (i think) that detects motion and it rattles too,and the first thing i thought before that was the l/r buttons, but i held them and place and there was still the rattle. This is all simply speculation

Wow, sounds like prolonged physical aggravation towards your DS has broken something inside. :(

@boonelson-hahaha very funny but I never get mad while playing a video game this was my first exception (Dragons lair) and it was'nt like a "OMG!! NOW ITS FLIPPIN PERSONAL!!" type shake, it was like an "awww man" type shake. I asked my step bro. and he shook his and heard the same rattle, anyone else??

@mofajo- I saw your comment, so i decided to check out my dsi, i shook it but i didnt here anything, so i put my ear closer, and i heard a rattle :| at first i thought it was just the screen, but i closed it and it was still there! So i held down the L and R buttons, and it was STILL THERE. I think you mite be on to something.
