For the life of me, I can't beat the 8th dark world. I've accumulated enough coins to unlock everything I've played so much, but I just can't beat it. Ugh.
(a) do your best to rack up purple blocks early. Two of the bike riders in the image have purple suits. (b) many of the formations involve L-shaped blocks stacked onto each other in groups of three... set one bit to 'catch' the open L-shape, and then set the two others while all the blocks are stopped in mid-air. while they're stalled, you can continue to place blocks for (and into) other formations to clear them. use that time wisely. (c) again, try to beat it quickly. Later on in the level, giant block formations begin to fall... they're good if you're fast enough to clear them as they fall, because they have a ton of bits in them, but they're bad if they're not the right colors you need. The key to pictobits is that, in each level, the falling block formations are repeated each time. Replay the level enough, and you'll pick up on the pattern and what you need to do to clear the level. The only bad thing is that, when you get to a certain point with the game, it's too repetitive to be very much fun. I wish there had been more randomization to the patterns of falling blocks.
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3

[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!
@ChonyLee: have you beaten all the Normal levels yet? I found the Dark ones much easier after i'd made my way through all the normal versions. :3

I have beaten all the normal levels, although I thought they were hard at the time. Now I can breeze through most of them. It's just the end of that 8th dark level that gets me every time.

Wow, what great advice!
Thanks BlackDragon! See, it's posts like this that make NintendoLife worth reading...
I have actually finished alot of this game, there are a few dark worlds I need to beat but I just got so busy with other DSiWare releases that I just never went back to keep at it. Maybe now I will...

That's it, I'm done with it. If I play a stage 50 times and can't beat it, and feel worse after playing it than before, then I quit. The game is awesome, but it's so repititive. Are there any puzzle games that are different every time?
I know this says more about my skill level than the actual game, btw.
The Dark Stages are pretty hard, but I managed to beat them all. Sometimes on the faster stages it helps to use the POW as blocks are coming onto the screen to buy yourself some extra time to see how to deal with them. I think on Stage 8 there are blocks 8 across that fall near the end in alternating colours, and if you empty all your bits and then run the stylus across to fill it with all 8 blocks and then run your stylus back the other way to unload all 8 so that they match the ones above you can get a lot of them.
i love this game! completed all the levels but not unlocked all the music yet

The stage 8 dark world is one of the hardest for me and that's just about as far as I got... I played it some more last night thanks to many of the wonderful tips in this thread, but it's still nearly impossible for me to beat. I'll keep trying tho. Thanks for your tips, too!

I remember a time when number 14 (Light) was near impossible for me but now I can do it with both hands behind my back and the stylus between my teeth. Point of the story:Persistence pays off.
I finally beat it! The next couple weren't that bad, now I'm stuck on dark stage 12. It's a bugger!
Wait til you get to 15...
Yeah this is the one stage I haven't been able to get through... I just can't keep up! One mistake and it all fills up veeery quickly... I'm not sure how I got through 14 though. Might have been a bit of luck.
