Dru - I like that one! Is that figure from somewhere, or did you just make him up?
How did you get the background a solid red? Is there a quick trick to it? I'm just now learning how to free paint, and mix the colours. (I've hardly put the DSi down since downloading this )

Hello! I also downloaded the First Semester of Art Academy. I found it to be AMAZING. I love art, though I can't really do anything amazing (I'm more creative, not formal drawing). AA:FS is nothing short of a miracle. The lessons are detailed spectacularly, they give you a specific new view on art and how everything works to put a picture together. I made pieces of art that I would never, ever, imagine making in my entire life! And my second try (and THIRD) were even better. This is one that continually has me redoing the lessons to get better and free play for some major fun. I'm on the fence for Second Semester, but I just might because of the new lessons!

Thanks for the tip Dru ... I'll try that out. And go with the cartoon guy. I really like that style. I have a friend whose daughter does work for Disney. She creates art work like your cartoon, and I just love that look. Do more!

I was having a go at trying to mix paint. When I realised I made all water colours I decided to have a go at that last lesson on my own, without Vince's instructions. This is what I came up with.

Edit: I know for next time I should paint the background first. I painted the background after drawing the earth and the comet so there are still a few white spots... but the problem with painting the background first is that I can't use pencil sketches for orientation

Hey thanx for the upload, nice picture lovin the details on the smoke adds a lot of weight to the image, keep em comin'

Roopa - Your painting is really cool. I kept going back and forth to look at it again. I love the way you've mixed the colours towards the bottom. And I wouldn't have known you didn't do the background first, so don't worry about it.

Fatem - Your Flipnote is great as well. I loved watching it grow from the ground up wondering what it was going to be. Well done. I've tried making a few Flipnotes like that, but I'm not very good at drawing, so they don't come out the way I want. That why I'm excited about the Art Academy .... it's made me realise I can draw .. I just need some practice.

Dru Those are great! I'm serious ... your pics are really good, and I like the way you're colouring them. I'm really into retro art ... that sort of retro 50s/60s futurist style, like you see in the films like The Incredibles. I'm not sure if you know what I mean, but I can see that sort of look in what you're doing. Or if you do a Google search for artwork by Mary Blair, you'll get an idea of what I'm seeing in your work. (I wish this website had a way to send personal messages so I could explain better without boring everyone else.) I keep going back to look at your Robot for inspiration.

Wow, ya' know, you're really good! I almost can't believe you've said you don't have any experience.

I tried the simplest thing of all (the little chat bubble star on your Robot picture) and I couldn't seem to get those perfectly straight lines. It always looks as if the red is blending in with the yellow.. maybe I'm just not good

The thinnest round brush with full paint and 1 dot of water is ur best friend when it comes to smooth lines and edges. Also the flat brushes with full paint and 1 dot of water are great for getting really thick colour. Thanx for you compliments! Its true that I haven't had any formal training but Ive been doing digital art as a hobby for some years now, I stopped recently tho due to lack of time and responsibilities. Art Academy has got me back into art so hopefully I'll produce some digital art again soon!

Well don't you stop! That's some of the best art making I've seen period, and the fact that you did it on a DSi is incredible. applaud
