Yes, more DSiWare gold! Hope it comes to Europe. Thanks, Hugo, I can't wait.

@WaltzElf: We'll I would love to see them appear in Australia, but that's up to the publisher.

The sad truth is that there aren't enough gamers to make up for all the additional costs and time it takes
to release in Australia. You need to cover additional rating and translations fees. Not only costs these
things money, they also bring the EU release at risk.

You see, the master submission for Australia goes through the same lotcheck as the European one.
So if something is wrong with the rating form or translations than that also hurts the EU release.

That's an excuse a lot of developers and publishers use, yes, but yet plenty of other developers and publishers seem to make enough money out of the Australian market to justify releasing games over here.

I know it's a relatively expensive process, but if it was that bad, we would not have games at all released here. Plenty of other indies do just fine in this market with DSiware, Wiiware, PS Network and XBLA.

That said, I Wally do wish our Government would do more to encourage indie releases, for local developers if nothing else.

@Waltz: you're more than welcome to contact his publisher*, of course, and let them know how you feel, but you're probably preaching to the choir at the moment. i'm sure Hugo would love to see his games released in all regions.
* provided he's going through the same publisher for this project as he did with Flipper :3

It's a shame that Australia doesn't provide a low entry point to small game publishers. The market isn't as big as the other major regions, and with a costly rating system that has received pretty bad international rep I can understand why some would think it's not worth distributing there. Small releases usually have a business model of keeping costs low to ensure profits. There just isn't enough incentive when they don't have reduced rating costs like the ESRB provides.

Incentive is the key word, I think. Some being successful doesn't mean many or most are successful, and why go through that risk when others have lost out and there's a chance you could lose out too? Better to play it safe and go with the biggest markets, which also happen to have lower fees too.

I just searched to find out more detail about Australia's rating system and 9 out of 10 results on the first page were about the "controversy" of having no 18+ rating. The only one on that page which gave me fairly objective, non-opinionated information was Wikipedia and that kept referencing the "controversy" too. The Australian Classification Board's official website was nowhere to be seen, lol.

@WaltzElf

you seriously think publishers/developers make excuses NOT to make profit ?
If there is a good change to make some money, and I'm not even talking huge profit.. just at a bit of profit.

Publishers would do it. But with the information that we have right now; it seems even hard to earn
back the investment (not making profit.. just earning back the costs).
