Levels - look very nice, especially Amazon River - lots of trees, caves, waterfalls etc. There are at least two or three ways to beat each level - some ways shorter (tougher to) other longer but with bonuses(like rockets, speed-up, shield). Some hidden passages that can save you two or three seconds.
Planes - you have three plane classes, I haven't unlocked but the first one, you can upgrade shield, engine and wings. They look v.nice and you can change the paintjob. You have to refuel (you fly slower with no fuel) and have a shield that protects your plane (direct tree hit - bye, bye; but little scratch is OK).
Fun - definitely! It's really great to fly in all directions, you need to pick your way according to situation, AI is good (it's really frustrating when Crazy Joe or someone takes you down on the last lap with a f$%^ng rocket). Power-ups - great. And when you get 3XMissile you just hit the brakes and wait for opponents. Feels SOOOOO good
Not fun - as I mentioned, it can be frustrating when they kill you, so sometimes loud foul language is the only consolation... One or two music tracks sound weird(?).
Consclusion; Even tho 800 points seem steep, you can get sucked in deep. Srsly it's a good game with nothing but fun. Good my GF's gone for the night, I know I'll be cuddling my DSi with Airace. When I play more I'll let you kno.
Graphics: Excellent graphics for a DSiWare game! the planes and levels look fantastic and there are a lot of little details that show alot of care was put into the looms of this one. How they fit this in 20MB is beyond me.
Sound: Probably the weakest point of the package. The music and sound effects aren't really grating or annoying, they're just kind of there. There is only a few tracks in the whole game and the sound effects aren't terribbly loud. All around, not bad, but it could be much better.
Gameplay: This is the make or break for a game and thankfully, the gameplay here makes the game. Firstly, you have many options for control. You can have button or stylus controls as well as the option of inverting the controls. Personally, I prefer the buttons option but the stylus option works well too. The controls feel very smooth and responsive. The level design here is also very nice. There are many places to go and multiple routes to take. All together, very well-put together gameplay.
The one issue I have with this game is the multi-player. I'm not sure how it is because I have yet to find someone who also bought this. My problem is that this doesn't support DS Download Play and this title could SO use it. I'm sure the multi-player works just fine but it was a real missed oppurtunity to skip out on a Download Play option.
Overall, This is a great purchase. Even though the 800 point price tag may scare some away, this game is very much worth it!
From what I've found out from QubicGames, DS Download Play was cancelled because of DSiWare limitations - either that or levels/planes/specials. I don't know how it works but... you know it's not a $30 boxed game. It's $8 - it's not much if you like to multiplay wit friends.
Thanks for the info about the game, I'll be grabbing this gem on the weekend when my pointscard arrives.

If your looking for a place to start when choosing what to get from the DSiware shop this thread may help. However, I think there are alot of users who have posted in that thread havent made it back there to update their games lately .... https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/dsiware/rate_your_dsiware_...

Cheers! Tho some of the posts look scary! I can't picture myself having 67 games on my DSi. I'd say two-three every month. I'm not addicted yet
BrainAge definitely. And AiRace has to be completed!
I haven't finished the game yet (last few tournaments are really challenging), but wanted to share this before the NLife review comes out.
AiRace is smiply brilliant!
The best thing is naturally FLYING. The vertical dimension is not just there as a nice little addition - it is absolutely essential to shift up and down all the time. And when you switch from buttons to stylus (which takes some time to master) the gameflow is superb.
Level design is textbook perfect with multiple routes, secret shortcuts, tunnels, tight passages and open spaces. You have 12 tracks altogether (6 lvls normal and inverse - and it's really like night and day) and each one of them looks completely different. It takes time to figure out your best (or just favorite) route but it's so much fun when you leave all the others behind after an inch-perfect shortcut dive. Well done.
Graphics, as it was mentioned, look to good to be true for a DSiWare game, music/sound is ... decent (it's there) and AI is more than challenging when you switch game's difficulty to Veteran or Ace (totally Mission Impossible).
Power-ups add extra arcade spiciness to regular racing. Missiles and speed boosts (triggered with L/R) can turn the game around in seconds and when you learn to dodge enemy rockets you feel like the king of the skies. Tasty blend of fast racing, shooting, dodging and constant pressure from your opponents makes (almost) every race a thriller/joy ride.
All things considered, 800 points is a bargain, and AiRace deserves all the praise. Maybe I don't have much DSiWare experience but this game really is something I'd love to get back to after months (or even years). One of the best DS games I've ever played (racing fan - bear in mind).
9/10 with button controls. 9,5 when you learn to use stylus.
And Gizmo - no, there's no Tunnel. AIRace+Tunnel - 1000 points bundle. Damn worth every single point.
Right so AiRace Tunnel was definitely worth it then and this game looks absolutely awesome as well. I think the AiRace duo is a surprise success.
