Anyone take the plunge on this one yet? If you have, how does it control and is the AI ok?

I downloaded it and have played one quick game due to being super busy. Not a bad title but I need more time to try it out.

I'm reviewing it, actually. I'm finishing the review as we speak so it will probably be up sometime tomorrow, but to give some brief impressions, I'm actually kind of digging it so far. I had never even heard of Reversi before yesterday, so playing it was a bit like discovering checkers for the first time. Being a complete newcomer to the game, judging exactly how smart the AI is is a little difficult (as I tend to get my butt kicked 9 times out of 10). I will say, however, that the higher difficulty computer players have much more defined strategies. Advanced comps are vicious about taking the corners (which is obviously a very good strategy, since corner pieces can't be captured), for example, while on the lower difficulties the comps tend to make more obvious errors. Controls are really simple. You touch the screen to place a tile down. That's about it.

You'll have to read the review to see how it scores, though

I haven't a clue as to what that NeoPets game is all about, so I really can't help you there

Sounds like a winner, then, since this game is only $2 and seems to be free of some of the things that made Absolute Chess such a bring down.

The real appeal for me has been the download play multiplayer. If you've got friends with DS's the game's appeal skyrockets

@abgar - I had that. I beat in about a day though. It was fun, despite the practically linear exploring involved. I'm talking about the DS version though. The Wii version, however ... shudders violently

i have the DS version and it was very enjoyable to me (i have been a neopets user since before the site sold its soul to viacom, so it was like "oh i know that character"), was the wii version that bad?

i think i will get this one, but i will wait for the review

So, are the anime characters as annoying as they were in Absolute Chess? Please tell...

They're definitely in the game. But, I mean, I didn't find them annoying. They're incredibly unnecessary, but I didn't find anything particularly irritating about them--other than the fact that they're in the game at all. I really hate anime and it didn't really affect my enjoyment of the game. As far as I can tell, though, the whole interface is exactly the same as Absolute Chess. So if you didn't like the whole, "pick a weird anime character to play against and adjust their difficulty" thing, this won't sway you.

@abgar - Since it was published by Capcom, well known for their thrilling action and fighting games, you'd think there would be something as simple as, say, a solid framerate ... no. The core components of Reversi were fine, and I loved the more fleshed out world of the game, but it simply wasn't worth it, since the pointer controls were too stiff and the framerate nearly made it impossible to play. I didn't even get out of Shenkuu, but I knew I couldn't barely stand another minute of it.
