The thing is, we know a lot of users enjoy spending their time on the forums, so doing something to help maintain it can certainly be rewarding. Sure it will have some bad moments, but that's like life, it's what you do with it that can make a real difference to the community as a whole.
It's pretty bad that some people think it just happens by magic.
Agreed. Though I wouldn't say it's a horrible job. If you spend most of your time online then maybe you'd find this kind of job horrifying. If you spend the majority of your time out and about experiencing other things in life then coming online to moderate won't feel bad. In fact it would be interesting because things online are so different than in real life. It puts a certain spin on things.

I love NintendoLife, it's such a nice community. That's why I want to help keep it that way I feel like I need to help out (weird, I know) and help the community
I've always had mixed feelings whenever I tried imagining what I'd be like as a mod. I like to believe I'd be fair. But would I enjoy it? Would the stress get to me? Also I tend to be snappy in my replies. So...there's no telling
Oh you poor souls. Moderating a busy forum is a thankless, soul-crushing job.
So is Teaching. So is being in law enforcement. So is being Trash disposal guy. Somebody's gotta do it and ultimately things go awry if they don't get done. I thank my postal guy when he drops my mail off.
Ya, except people get paid for doing all those jobs you mentioned.
LOL @ comparing being a police officer to a forum moderator

Well moderators are like forum police. They enforce the rules of the forum.
Anyway let me just add some insight just some things you might have not thought of before throwing your hat in the ring.
For the most part being a mod is liking having a job. A good mod always keeps his/her eye on things going on on the site even if they don appear to be doing anything. I can say that I am on Push Square alot even if I don't post anything or comment on stuff. Most of the time I am just keeping an eye on things. Even when I am at my normal job on my breaks and lunch I check in on the site. Its not a oh let me just pop in and out at will. I mean you can do that but you never know when something might happen and you are needed so its good to always be keeping an eye on things. And it is not all fun and games. You need to put friendships aside if rules are being broken and you need to be able to treat everyone as equals. Not all decisions you make will make people happy in fact you are more likely to here the negative results more then the positive ones. I can't even count how many "users" from Push Square have berated me on PSN and threaten to bombard my twitter account (which I dont have), but in the end its part of the job.
Still there are good points to it too. You are making so the rest of the staff can deal with other things rather then having to worry about spammers or other trouble makers. Doing so they can get more articles out to everyone or do more updates to the site. It really is a privilege and the team her doesn't take selecting a mod lightly. One of the reasons I have been coming to NL and its sisters sites for so long is because of the moderation. It is one of the best if not the best on a site like this around the web and whoever they choose I know it will be a great choice.
Out of curiosity who are the active Mods currently on Nintendo Life?
RetiredPush Square Moderator and all around retro gamer.

Well @Theblackdragon is mia so the only active mod right now that I'm aware of is @Ting_Lz. Edit: There might be another mod that focuses on the article comments as I've seen someone else with a silver mod-badge here at NL, but I don't see them that often.
I vote for Sheldon to be mod!
As for me I wouldn't know...been modding my own site and usually give users a tiny bit of extra freedom, however any conflict or fight I usually would listen on both sides of the story and see what some of the bystanders saw before making judgement.
.......Sheldon 2015!
